Ruben Dias x Reader - A House Is Not A Home Part 8/8
I held my promise. It's still Sunday here in Stockholm. 😅
Enjoy the last part of this story.
Tumblr media
Ruben's wife dies during childbirth along with their son. Ruben hasn't been in a relationship since. Y/N is a single mother to a four year old boy. She buys a house in the small town that Ruben lives in. The house needs alot of fixing which Ruben helps with, resulting in him slowly falling in love with Y/N. However, falling in love with Y/N makes Ruben feel like he is betraying his dead wife.
Enjoy!
Perhaps that's how things were suppose to be, you and Johnny against the world. No one would fight for you unless you did so yourself. Not Johnny's father, not Ruben, not anyone. You were all alone and that's how things were suppose to be.
You sat under the big oak tree in your backyard, watching Johnny as he climbed higher and higher up the trunk. It had only been the two of you for the past few weeks. Though, Katarina and David never failed to invite you over to their house, but you didn't want to put them in a position where they had to choose between you and their only daughter. Not that they would find the choice any difficult.
"Mommy, mommy, look at me!" Johnny shouted somwhere above your head.
"Be careful sweetie. Not so high." You mumbled, too deep in your thoughts to pay any attention to him.
Ruben and Emily were probably somwhere in Portugal right now, bonding over knocking down the walls to their new found house. A friend of Ruben's told you the news, someone from David's bar. Ruben and Emily had finally found a house and were now busy renovating the property surrounding it. It was hard to admit that you were more sad than you were angry. It was hard to admit how much it hurt to miss him. Everything reminded you of your time together. Like that truck spotted in the distance, looking like it was coming your way.
"Mommy, mommy look how high...."
Suddenly, you heard a loud thud and saw Johnny tumbling through the air, landing with a sickening crunch on the ground below. You rushed to his side, heart racing with fear. Johnny was crying and holding his arm, which was twisted at an odd angle. "Oh my god, baby?"
He started to cry, blood gushing out of a wound in his forhead.
"No, stay with me baby. Stay with mommy."
Johnny's face went pale as his eyes began to flicker.
The crying stopped.
"No, no, no."
You cradled him in your arms too afraid to move his body, his limb body.
"What happened?"
There had been noise behind you, noise you were too in shock to comprehend. The truck you saw coming your way had been swirling on the gravel road leading up to your house. Ruben jumped out at the sight of you, Johnny unconscious in your arms.
"Y/N, what happened?" He knelt beside you. You were clearly too stunned to speak.
"I..don't...? Ruben you're..."
"There's no time." He said, helping you up off the ground. You and Ruben then rushed to his car, the truck tossing gravel on it's way to the nearest hospital. You refused to sit down in the hospital waiting room. The paramedics had taken Johnny, rushing him into the nearest emergency room. That was two hours ago and you still had no update on how he was doing.
"Here."
Ruben had gone for a coffee run. You thanked him as he handed you your paper cup.
"You should sit." He said. "The doctors will tell us what's going on once..."
"I'm fine."
Ruben fell silent but nodded understandingly. He had gone to take a seat himself but got up to stand next to you, to drape an arm around your shoulders to comfort you.
"You shouldn't be here." You said, shrugging his reaching arm away.
He looked at you confused and slightly hurt.
"I mean, you shouldn't be here, in this country."
Ruben's face softened. "Y/N, I...."
"There you are!"
Two figures came into the quiet waiting room, both of them rushing towards you. "We came here as soon as we heard." Katarina swept you into her embrace, no intentions of letting you go despite your need of oxygen. "Ruben?" They let you go though, at the sight of Ruben. "What are you doing here son?" David uttured, scratching the back of his neck in confusion.
"And where is Emily?" Katarina frowned.
Ruben's head shifted between the three of you, wanting to answer all of your questions. However, he was briefly interrupted by a man dressed in a white coat addressing you by your last name.
"Yes?" You stepped forward, eager to receive some news about your son.
"Your son has suffered a small fractutre in his humerus." The doctor said.
"Thank god." Katarina sighed.
"But because of the bleeding we found in his brain we would like to keep him in the hospital overnight."
"Oh my."
Katarina put a hand to her mouth, smothering her astonishment. You, however didn't really grasp what the doctors was trying to tell you. "I don't understand is my son going to live or not?"
A hand was placed on your shoulder, Ruben's hand. It instatnly brought you comfort.
"Most likely." The doctor said, too professionally for your liking. Perhaps he didn't have children of his own, or else he would have understood how you were feeling right then.
"We only suspect a small cerebral hemorrhage. If this is the case our surgeons will know how to treat it."
"Surgeons? My son will need surgery?" A pressure apperead in the center of your chest, making it almost impossible to take a breath. You were on the verge passing out if it hadn't been for Ruben, his arm now wrapped around your waist.
"We'll run some test overnight Mrs Y/L/N. The hospital will give you a call once the results get in. But for now I suggested you and your family have a safe trip home." With a click of his pen, the doctor indicated that he had other places to be.
"But my family is my son, I'm not going anywhere!" You exclaimed, tears flooding your eyes. People in the waiting room were startled by your sudden outburst, let alone the innocent doctor.
"Y/N, dear." Katarina stepped forward. "It's time to go. David and I'll will take you home."
"No I..."
She squeeze your hand. "Don't worry, Johnny will be alright. You'll be by his side first thing in the morning, okay."
You nodded slowly. "Okay."
And with that they brought you to their home, letting you stay in their guest room. But how could you sleep when your baby was left alone in that hospital. Perhaps he was afraid, calling for you without answer?
"Y/N, don't."
You had snucked downstairs, careful not to wake anybody as you prepared to leave. A shadow on the living room couch made you jump. Ruben got up to turn on the lights. He found your trembling by the door. "Don't...leave." He said, his eyes laced with sleep. He must have slept on the couch. Of course, now back in town, he must have been staying at Katarina and David's, in their spare bedroom, now occupied by yours truly.
"I have to, he needs me." You said, tears in your eyes.
"What Johnny needs is for you to be strong."
"But I'm so..."
Ruben had gotten to you, wrapping his arms around you before you could finish the sentence. You inhaled his familiar scent, enclosing your arms around his waist. The hug, his hug, it had to last forever, he was not allowed to let you go.
"No." You cried, once he did.
Ruben looked at you, brows furrowed.
"Don't let me go." You whispered.
Surprised, he smiled. "Then I won't." He wrapped you into his embrace again, holding you tight. You felt safe and cared for, as if nothing in the entire world could hurt you. As if....
"Ruben?" You pulled back, a frown on your face. "What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here?"
Ruben looked at you, slightly amused. "But I am."
"Yes, I can see that, but why? Where is Emily, why aren't you with her in Portugal...at your house?"
Ruben shook his head,  smiling at you faintly. Nothing about the situation was funny to you. How could he smile when you were obviously....
"Y/N." He said, reading the confusion on your face. "It's just a house." He shrugged.
You didn't quite understand.
"Emily can have it. I think she needs it. It will help her find closure. But to me..." Ruben stepped forward, closing the gap between you. He grabbed your hand, his brown eyes looking deeply into yours. "To me it's just a house."
"But..." Your protests meant nothing. A part of you were afraid that if you stopped arguing Ruben might not find a reason to comfort you anymore, to stop hugging you,  to let you go. You looked down to where your hands were intertwined. Ruben's thumb was stroking the back of your hand. Light strokes, delcatly moving across your skin. You looked up, eyes glossy. "It's just a house?"
He smiled. "It's just a house, not a home. Home is whenever I'm with you."
"Ruben I..."
He stopped you from agruging further, his methods unorthodox. You were backed up against the front door, Ruben pinning your arms above your head. He kissed you with urgency, perhaps to finally convince you that he was here to stay. You were convinced.
"You choose me."
The kiss parted. You wore a smile. Ruben traced a thumb on the outer ends of your cupid's bow.
"Like I said." He grunted. "Your my home Y/N."
Ruben kissed you again, this time indicating that you should take things upstairs, but only so that he could hold you close through the night, his lips close to your ear, assuring you that Johnny was gonna be so happy to see his mom first thing in the morning when he wakes up.
The morning came. You and Ruben returned to the hospital. And surely the two of you were by Johnny's bed to see him open his eyes for the first time.
"Mommy, my head hurts." He groaned. "And my arm."
You stroked his head and smiled, tears flooding your eyes. "I know baby, it's because you fell from a tree. You climbed very high and fell."
"I climbed high." He said, his voice weak but still tracing his regular joyous personality. "Did you see me mommy,  I climbed high."
A wet laugh escape your mouth. "I did see you baby, you did amazing."
"Ruweeen!"
Your son's eyes widened once every noticed him standing behind you.
"Hey little buddy."
Ruben stepped up to his bed, patting Johnny's legs over the hospital bed covers. "A cool cast you got there." He pointed towards the knewly swept cast on Johnny's left arm.
Johnny held up his arm with support of the other,  proudly showing off his battle scars. "I fell!" He exclaimed.
"So I've heard." Ruben laughed, reaching out to tossle Johnny's hair.
"Mommy, mommy I want pancakes!" Your son exclaimed, not looking to be someone recovering from a severe fall.
"Is that so?" You laughed. "Would you like my pancakes when we come home, or Ruben's?"
Johnny's eyes furrowed as he had to think. However, there existed only one correct answer. "Ruweeen's!"
Johnny was discharge from the hospital later that same afternoon and the three of you went on to have Ruben's famous pancakes for dinner. You went on to have them that Sunday and every Sunday after that.
The End

we could be more | dean winchester | 5
Tumblr media
Summary: Ivonne Rainer was practically a trained killing machine. Stripped to the bone then built back up by her father in order to become one of the best, like he was. She was forced into hunting when she was nineteen, having developed powers that couldn’t be explained. That is, until she was paid a visit by Azazel’s lackey. Her powers were gone, she needed help, and that’s when she found her father’s journal. Pointing to Sam and Dean Winchester.
SERIES MASTERLIST
A/N - My first OG episode, so enjoy!
DEAD MEN CAN’T SCREAM
ᴺᴼᵂ ᴾᴸᴬᵞᴵᴺᴳ : CAN’T CATCH ME NOW - OLIVIA RODRIGO
“XAVIER NICHOLAS JACKSON!” I yelled. Xavier shrieked, jumping six feet into the air.
“Here we go.” Sam muttered.
“She used his middle name.” Dean smirked.
I picked up a pointer stick, slapping it on the sign. “SHOES OFF!”
“Damn, fine!” Xavier hurriedly took off his shoes. I walked up to him, then smiled sweetly.
“Thanks, love.” I gave him a kiss, leaving him dumbfounded.
”Welcome to our world, soldier.” Dean chuckled.
”Tough world.” Sam snorted.
“So, Sammy, got any new cases?”
“There’s one, and I think Ivy will be interested.” He placed the paper down. “String of murders here, all done by different people with no connection. However, once the murderers were caught, they turned out to be sleeping.”
“Manner of death?” I asked, rushing over and taking the paper.
“A knife.” Sam frowned. “In the jugular.”
“Map it out.” I ordered, gritting my teeth. It was like a switch flipped in my brain. “I don’t care how we do it, we’re finding this dreamwalker.” Sam mapped out the killings, and I took a quick look.
“Looks like nothing to me.” Dean shrugged.
“This is Morse code.” I got out a sheet of paper, writing it out. “You… can… run… Ivy. It’s coming back. For me.”
“T-To finish you off?” Sam stammered, leaning forward.
“Seems like it.” I exhaled. “It’s taunting me. Telling me to run. I’m guessing that the next killings will spell out ‘but you can’t hide’.”
“So we find out where. Find out how to kill this thing.” Dean resolved, placing his hand on the map.
“How many sleeping people will we rifle through before we find this thing?” Sam scoffed. “We can’t barge into every home on a street and find out who’s sleeping, we’re going to have to try and track a person down, but even that’s impossible.”
“That also means we can’t sleep.” I sighed.
“What?” Xavier folded his arms.
“That dreamwalker is coming for me. It could possess any one of us and the only thing it needs is for us to take a nap. After that, knives galore.”
“Why knives?”
“A murderer’s principle of extravagance. Or, a more plausible one, the ability to get the holder caught cause the dreamwalker isn’t gonna put on gloves before going psycho.”
“And the, uh, neck bit?” Dean asked, pointing to his jugular.
“There’s an ancient saying in dreamwalker lore everywhere.” I clicked my tongue. “‘Dead men can’t scream.’. The whole point to stab someone’s neck is to silence them. Their screams, their words, thoughts, everything. Cause if you take out part of the airway, you take them out.”
“How are we gonna find out where it strikes next? Cause so far, the only thing we have is what it is and who it’s after.”
“I don’t think so.” I drew an arrow from the first killing to the last. “Point A to B. We’re here,” I circled a place on the map, “and all the killings are making its way to us. It’s like it’s been tracking me.”
“This is a change.” Sam chuckled. “We’re the ones being hunted this time.”
“It’s not gonna be pretty, Sam.” I sighed. “Wherever we’re going, a trail of dead bodies are gonna follow.”
”That’s not particularly ideal.”
”Didn’t seem like it.” I loaded my gun, exhaling. “Well, we know what has to happen. You guys need to get far away from here, and I’ll deal with the ‘walker.”
“No. No way.” Dean refused almost immediately.
“We’re not leaving you.” Xavier agreed.
“It’s not like I’m giving you a choice.” I retorted. “Get in your cars. Go.”
“You almost got skinned last time you came into contact with that thing.” Sam frowned. “How do you expect to survive this time?”
“I have books, lore on how to deal with something like this. If someone summoned it, I send it back to hell. If not, a destroying ritual will do the trick.”
Dean scoffed. “You need backup-“
“I need space, Dean.” I started sharpening my knives harshly. “You stay close and you might end up with a knife in you.”
“And if we turn our backs, you could be on the receiving end.” Xavier argued.
“I know, but if I die, it stops the cycle.”
”You don’t know that.” Sam frowned.
“Fine.” I gave up, folding the map. “We can all set off at sunrise. Just draw a protective rune with holy water on you before you sleep.”
Tumblr media
However, I had other plans. I waited until the boys were asleep before gathering Sam’s research, stuffing it into my satchel before I grabbed my copy of the house keys, unlocking the door and leaving. I’d decided that the first place to go was the house where it all started, so I could figure out where it went. I ended up in Madison, New Jersey.
“Can I help you, miss?” A local asked. He was old, and I recognised him.
“Arthur Paisley?” I grinned.
“Who’s askin’?” He retorted gruffly.
“It’s Ivonne. Rainer?”
”Ivy, dear girl!” He broke out into a toothy smile. “Welcome back. Let me take you for a drink.” We ambled towards the bar, talking. “So, where have you been all these years?”
”On a road trip. I found some family friends and went with ‘em.”
“The Winchesters, right?” He nodded. “Such a shame what happened to ya family. Little Carter…”
I breathed out shakily, managing a smile. “Yeah. He didn’t deserve that.”
“You did what you had to, girlie.”
“I could’ve done something else.” We entered the bar, which was eerily empty.
“But you did the first thing that came to your mind.” He vouched. “Lucky that gun was still on your father’s bedside table.”
I stopped, turning around slowly as my hand slowly went to my gun. “Hold on. How did you know that it was a gun? Carter’s manner of death was kept private by the police. And nobody knew that I was with Sam and Dean.”
“You’re famous around town, here, girl-“
“Cut it.” I snapped, taking my gun out. “And let Mr Paisley go.”
“Ok.” He smirked. “But I’ll find you again. I need to finish my job off with you.”
“Good luck.” I scoffed, flicking down the safety pin. Then the darkness disappeared from Paisley’s eyes, and I caught him before he fell, setting him down on a comfy chair before running off. The moment I was sure I wasn’t being followed, I got into my car, dialling Ellen and driving off.
‘Hey, sweetie. Are Sam and Dean with you?’ Ellen greeted.
“Hey, El. And, uh, no. Just wanted to run a few names by you. There’s more, but I’ll give you a few.”
’Shoot.”
”Edward Sarkis, Pete Barnes, Vincent Wylie, Harry Terman, Lloyd Cole, Mark James…?”
‘I know the names. All seasoned hunters, with a wife and kids. None would stop comparing baby photos.’
”They’re dead, Ellen. I gulped. “Killed like Dad. Then their family was found with a knife in their throat the day after. The one who was blamed was the oldest kid of the family, and they’re all now in a mental asylum.”
‘You don’t think that it’s the same thing that killed your parents, do you?’
”I know it is. The killings spell out ‘you can run, Ivy’ in Morse. I need Ash to help and find a way to kill it.”
’I’ll get him on it. What am I supposed to tell the boys?’
”Nothing.” I frowned.  “If they come knocking or calling, you can’t tell them where I am.”
’Ivy, you know I can’t do that.’
”Ellen.” I begged. “Just do this for me, please.”
 Pause.
’Fine. But you better live.’
“I’ll try.” I shifted gears. “Can you find out a hunter who lives close to the last murder site?”
“Yeah. His name’s Xavier Jackson.” My heart dropped out of my chest as I turned the car around, flooring it.
Tumblr media
“XAVIER!” I screamed, bursting into my house, but the boys were gone. “Oh my god-“ I got a phone call, and I picked up seeing Xavier’s calling ID. “Zay, where are you?”
‘A warehouse south from your house.’ I heard on the other end of the line. ‘I told you that you could run, Ivy, but I’d find you. Xavier seems like such a good guy. Why waste this opportunity to save your boyfriend?’
“Let him-“
‘I know why.’ He chuckled. ‘Because I’ve got your precious boys here with me.’
‘Don’t come here, Ivy!’ Dean ordered. ‘I swear, if you do-‘
“Dean-“
‘Ivy, please.” Sam begged. ‘Whatever you do, don’t come-’
‘See, Ivy, I don’t think you can listen to them.’ Xavier took back the phone. ‘Because you are going to come here. You’re going to come alone, and you’re gonna give yourself up. And I don’t think you can raise your gun again because to kill me you have to shoot your boyfriend. Just like you did Carter.’
“I’m gonna kill you.” I growled. “I swear to god, I will do it.”
‘I’d like to see you try. You’ll find me, but get here by sundown. If not for me, do it for Carter.’
“Carter.” I whispered, getting back in my car. I fought off tears, putting the pedal to the metal as I sped off, but carefully not exceeding the speeding limit. I hit the wheel, my teeth gritted. “DAMN IT!” I knew which warehouse Xavier was talking about. There was an abandoned one south of my house here. Nobody cared about it. Nobody thought there was anyone in there, but right now, there were three captive men and one monster. I pulled up at the warehouse, taking a gun out of a compartment under my seat, loading it and getting out, kicking down the door to the warehouse and holding my gun up.
“Don’t move.” Xavier had a knife held aloft, holding Sam’s head back by his hair. Dean was bound, his head hanging down with his eyes half open. “Put the gun down, Rainer. Come on, do a favour for your boyfriend.”
“Zay, I know you’re in there-“
“Put the gun down.” He pulled Sam’s head back further, so I put my gun down, holding my hands out.
“You got what you wanted, now let him go.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Fine, then take me.”
“Ivy, no…“ Sam muttered, his eyes barely open.
“What have you done to them?” I gasped, my fist clenching.
“Relax, it’s just a sedative.” Xavier smirked. “It’s not hurt them, just kept them incapacitated.”
“You’re sick.”
“None of this would have happened if you had just given yourself up. The cycle would stop. I’d leave and never bother anyone again. I was always after you, Ivy, little Carter didn’t need to die.”
“Wh-What do you mean?”
“Your anger was powerful to latch on to, but that night you just wouldn’t sleep. But Carter was asleep in the room opposite. I felt his pain, his animosity towards his older sister and, well, I just had to take the opportunity. But, as you can see, my revenge isn’t complete.”
I was breathing heavily, my body feeling like it was on fire as red hot rage boiled up in me faster than a bullet could travel from point A to B. “I’M GONNA KILL YOU!” We rushed at each other, and I knocked the knife out of Xavier’s hand, ending up a metre from Sam. I elbowed Xavier in the face, punching him so hard that he fell on the floor. I climbed on top of him, punching him over and over, watching blood run down his cheek as heavy breaths escaped my mouth. I pulled out my gun, holding it to his head. I had prepared a replica, which was the one I’d surrendered before.
“Is this what this was about the whole time?!” I shouted, my hand shaking while my finger tightened on the trigger. “You wanted me to take the blame? Why didn’t you do it? My brother was fifteen, fifteen, but you marked him for death.”
“It’s no one’s fault but yours, Ivonne.” He smirked. “Had you taken care of your family, he’d still be here. Now your two friends are next.” I was pushed off, and Xavier scurried to the knife, picking it up and holding it to Sam’s throat. “Dead men can’t scream-“
BANG.
BANG.
A cloud of black smoke escaped Xavier just as the bullets pierced his body, his eyes turning from dark blue to their usual light blue. He swayed, looking down at the two holes in his chest before he collapsed. Sam regained his strength and managed to cut himself and Dean, who was still half-asleep, loose while I rushed to Xavier’s side, holding his face in my hands. What had I done? What had I…
“Zay, please, no.” I sobbed. “We’ll get you an ambulance, anything, just don’t leave me.” I kissed his forehead, smoothing his hair back. “I’m so sorry.” It felt like my heart was breaking all over again, like I was out of control again. I hated it, but I couldn’t escape it. But the dreamwalker escaped… and I wasn’t quick enough.
“It’s ok.” He smiled weakly, reaching up to tuck my hair behind my ear. “It wasn’t your fault.”
“It was.” I sobbed, shaking my head. “You could have broken free-“
”It was too strong.” He whispered. “I love you so much, Ivy. But I wish we had more time.”
“Don’t say that, don’t say…” He gently brought me down to kiss him, but halfway through, his hold on me loosened and I felt his arm fall onto the floor, going cold. I sat back up, the bitter truth hitting me.
Xavier was dead, and it was my fault.
I screamed, the sound falling deaf on my ears as Sam wrapped his arms around my midsection, trying to pull me away.
“Ivy!” Sam yelled, but it sounded muffled. Like I’d shut everything out. “Ivy, we can’t help him! We need to go!” I went limp against him, crying my eyes out as the image of the dead body flickered between Carter’s and Xavier’s, lifeless and cold, with the same expression of terror. Please, not again. Not again.
“Yeah, you can’t help him.” Dean smirked, walking casually towards the body. “Another body, Ivy, what a shame. People just seem to be… dropping like flies around you.” The dreamwalker had possessed him, and both Sam and I took out our guns. My hands shook as I pointed my barrel at his forehead; please don’t make me shoot Dean. Not him. “Relax, this is only gonna be for a bit. You’ve only gotten away this time, Rainer. I’m going to complete my revenge someday.”
“What revenge?”
“I used to be a vampire.” Dean snarled. “But then my heart was carved out by none other than a gang of hunters, one of them happening to be Michael Rainer. I couldn’t resist it. I went after his family, and I found you, the strongest of the lot that was left. He trained you as well, so why can’t I put that to good use? However, you just couldn’t let me possess you. So Carter was a perfectly acceptable second choice.”
“Get out of my brother.” Sam snarled.
“As you wish.” The darkness left Dean’s eyes, and he immediately gasped, recovered and hugged me tightly, Sam joining in. I shook violently, tears still silently streaming down my face as my eyes landed on Xavier’s body in the middle of the empty space.
Tumblr media
”Xavier had gone insane.” I lied, later on, shaking as I sat down in the interrogation room in a police precinct. “I went to visit my old family house in New Jersey when I got the call that Xavier had kidnapped my friends and he needed me to come and save them. We fought, and he had a gun on him, which I stole. I shot when he was about to murder Sam, and then I untied them.”
“Story matches up.” The policeman nodded. “And injuries suggest the same. I don’t think we can press charges. You shot in self defence, and you stopped a kidnapping. Why you didn’t call us, I don’t know, but you did a good job.”
“Can I leave, officer?’ I asked.
“Yeah, I don’t see a reason to keep you.” I left the office, meeting Sam and Dean outside. Dean took me into a hug, kissing my hair.
“We can take a break from hunting, if it makes you feel better.” Sam whispered, hugging me once Dean released me.
“No.” I shook my head. “I need a distraction.”
Tumblr media
I decided to go on a drive alone, ignoring the fact that Xavier had just died. It was how I dealt with Carter and my family, so it didn’t seem much different. Just numb, like I’d forgone emotions entirely. So, yeah, repetitive.
Apart from how people seemed to die around me.
I got a phone call, seeing that Sam was the caller ID. I picked it up. “Hey, Sammy. What’s up?”
’Look to your right.’ I looked to my right, which had a long abandoned runway on it. There, at the top, was a figure that looked like Dean, tied to a chair yet again. ‘I’ve got him. And I’m gonna ram a car into him, unless you come over here.’
“Are you ever going to leave me alone?”
‘No, I don’t think I will.’ Just as I was about to floor it, a bullet grazed my head, lodging into my seat. I immediately floored it, wincing at the blood running down my head as I turned the car sharply.
“Did you send that bullet?”
‘No, I’m in a car.’
“This is the worst way to die.” Dean groaned, struggling against his bonds. "Beanie, if you save me, I will personally get you your favourite coffee every day.”
“Any last words?!” Sam yelled from the car, and Dean thought.
“You’re a twat!” He yelled back. “That’s right, I used British insults!”
The car started, headlights on as it revved, driving up towards where Dean was. He looked away, a feeble attempt to brace for impact. Sam determinedly pressed the pedal harder, ready to ram right into Dean-
I drove my car straight into the side of the one Sam was in, glass cracking and flying across my face as dust dirtied my face, the impact knocking the wind out of me and my head against the wheel. The world spun around me as I gasped to get some air, but my head felt heavy. I rested my head on my arms, passing out almost immediately.
Sam stumbled out of the car, the darkness gone from his eyes. He stared at Dean, and then himself, realising that he was barely injured.
“What happened?” Sam panted, checking himself.
“You almost killed me!” Dean yelled. “Get me my pocketknife from my jeans and then go get Beanie out of the car. She almost killed herself trying to stop you.” Sam gave him his pocketknife then sprinted over to the Corvette, yanking open the door and picking me up bridal style, turning to Dean.
“She’s not awake!” He called, and Dean ran over, grabbing a water bottle from my car and taking some water in his hand, flicking it over my face.
“C’mon, Ivy.” Dean whispered, checking for my heartbeat and breathing. “She’s alive, so that’s good.”
“We need to get her to the hospital.”
Tumblr media
”She’s not got any major injuries.” The doctor explained to Sam and Dean, who were outside the ward. “Just a few cuts and grazes, and her hand took a bit of a sprain. We’ve cleaned and bandages those, and she’s awake now and almost out of shock. You two can see her.”
They speed-walked into my ward just as I was sitting up, my hand  kept aloft and bandaged. As soon as I saw the boys, I grinned as they sat down and started showering my head with kisses.
“Thank god you’re ok.” Sam whispered, burying his face into my shoulder. Dean cupped my cheek, rubbing circles with his thumb.
“I…” Dean paused, “I am never letting you out of my sight again. You almost died. Again.”
“I told you, I’m only dying by a knife to the jugular.” I joked, sipping some water. “How long have I been out?”
“A day.” Sam smiled.
“So, ready for another hunt?”
“How does she not remember but we do?”
“I don’t know, Sammy.” Dean smirked.
“Am I missing something here?” I asked.
They both pulled out a cake, grinning. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

top five annoying mulder moments <3
okay, i have two lists for you: annoying moments that i find endearing, and annoying moments that make me want to beat him over the head with a chair
annoying moments that i find endearing:
(as of today, these could all be different tomorrow)
1/ "you mean i might get my 29.95 worth after all?" (731)
insane thing to say with 6 minutes to live about the mail-order VHS tape that might save your life. the way he casually cracked jokes in front of that bomb haunts me. unfortunately, this joke made me laugh so hard when i first watched this episode, that it became a core memory of the show to me, and it's still one of my favorite lines
related: putting on a comedy show for the nazis in the pine bluff variant
"ooh, is this the pepsi challenge? how 'bout some fresh air, boys" "you can just call me a cab, that'd be fine" sir they are about to execute you in a field
2/ his general behavior with the neighbors in arcadia
not his behavior towards scully, that's a different thing. i'm talking about mulder showing up in a neighborhood that deeply values regulations and appearances, and dragging out his basketball hoop at 10:30 at night. kicking mailboxes. putting that plastic flamingo in the lawn.
he went undercover in this subdivision to investigate the disappearances of multiple missing families, and his entire investigative strategy, is to fuck around and find out.
the fact that the neighbors start off concerned for him, worried that the monster is going to kill him for violating the HOA rules, and trying to warn him and help him, but eventually are so irritated that they decide to just leave him to die
is without a doubt my favorite thing about this episode.
3/ running in front of a car (colony)
literally made eye contact with the driver and kept running into traffic....busted up that guy's whole windshield.....like he went THROUGH that guy's windshield.....once again, i say, do you have ANY IDEA HOW PISSED I WOULD BE to just be minding my own business driving home from work, and end up with a MULDER-SHAPED HOLE in my windshield.....and then he just mumbled something about getting the wind knocked out of him?? and got up and kept running?? you KNOW he didn't pay for that guy's car. used "i got hit by a car" as an excuse for not filing his report on time??? i love him but he is not serious people
4/ reading the articles in a porno mag at the office (the jersey devil)
the jersey devil my most beloved most watched episode ever....cannot even express to you how funny i find it that when scully got into work, he's just sitting there staring intently at porn and starts telling her about the articles. he turns the magazine so that she can see. kinda the funniest thing that he ever did.
+ scully's lil "workin hard, mulder?" and "sorry to interrupt your serious investigation" ...they're best friends
5/ "why don't you take that gun and shoot yourself in the head like you shot my father" (piper maru)
girl WHAAAAAATTTTT??
BONUS: all of his comments about religion (various episodes)
i put this one on the list and took it back off so many times but i have to speak my truth. every last one of them. i know they're mean and judgmental. i like it.
honorable mention: the mulder ditch™ (too many episodes in too many circumstances to make one of the lists but the way he constantly just leaves scully places deserves to be included. he literally has the object permanence of a 3-month old)
annoying moments that make me contemplate violence:
(only came up with 4 for now...but they're serious to me)
1/ "when he's old enough, tell the kid i went down swinging." (vienen)
me when i'm two weeks out of the grave and have purposefully endangered my ass on a boat full of killer alien goo and my idea of a funny sarcastic joke is to goad my partner into saving me by JOKING!!!! about her having to tell my baby that i'm DEAD!!!
what compelled him to say this. this is my "WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS" infographic mulder moment.
my favorite part is how scully doesn't even address it she just gives that kind of "jesus fucking christ" sigh and tells him to put doggett on the phone lol
2/ “all this because i didn’t get you a desk?” (never again)
literally god forbid a girl have an existential crisis in some FUCKING PEACEEEEE
3/ "diana saw it too. and no matter what you think, she's certainly not going to go around saying that just because science can't prove it, it isn't true." (the beginning)
lolololololol
listen, i defend him for the diana stuff, and i get it. i could write you a dissertation on the complications and emotions of it and why he says things like this or whatever. but it still annoys the ever-loving fucking hell out of me.
this one bothers me more than "scully, you're making this personal" because it's such a direct blow to the core of their dynamic and to what she tries to do for him. this comes so soon after he looked at her in the hallway and told her that her rationalism and science saved him.
which is a moment that meant so much to her and that she references in this same episode. she grabs his hand and she says "you told me that my science kept you honest. that it made you question your assumptions. that by it, i'd made you a whole person."
she has memorized everything that he's ever said and she heard him so deeply in that hallway. she stays so dedicated to offering that science and rationalism that she knows he needs, that she heard him say was best for him.
that moment in that hallway changed them for the rest of their lives, and this is when skepticism and belief start to morph from genuine ideology into roles that they play for each other.
she's doing her part, she's offering him her side, she's playing her role. and he throws it back in her face, says he'll just go play with diana then, because diana would never counter him with science.
LOLLLL okay then spooky, we'll fucking see if it's diana that comes to save your ass in the bermuda triangle
4/ "you act like you're surprised" (three words)
debated putting this one on here because everyone knows i loveeee three words and i loveeee s8 mulder and i'm obsessed with this scene, i've written multiple pieces about the fish in it, i wouldn't change a word of it
but i just have to because this is the other one that grates at me in the back of my head from time to time...because it's not that he doesn't think resurrection is surprising. it's not that he thinks it's a given that he'll always be around.
he just cannot hear and acknowledge how painful and difficult losing him was for her. because it would mean hearing and acknowledging that what he does matters, not because of what he can do or find, but because it matters that he's there. because it matters whether he lives or dies.
this episode is so heartbreakingly cruel in a way that they just aren't to each other, and that's what i love about it and what makes it stand out to me.
she's pregnant with his baby and she buried him. she was ripped off of his corpse screaming and she planned a funeral and decorated a nursery at the same time, alone. she sat in a hospital chair and held his hand for days when she knew he couldn't feel it.
for six months, he was gone. for three months, he wasn't ever coming back. that first day that they were looking for him, she teared up and whispered, "i just can't take the chance that i'm never gonna see him again," to skinner, and then she lived in a reality where she was never going to see him again. for three months.
she prayed and she prayed and she prayed and then she got to cry and laugh and hold onto him and take him home. and she tried to tell him, quietly, about the last six months. about how she doesn't think he could ever understand what it was like. about how she prayed, and about how her prayers "have been answered."
she told him how hard it was to learn he was missing, to search, to find him dead. "and now to have you back...," she smiled and said through tears.
"well, you act like you're surprised."
in less than 24 hours he is going to run towards death again and she is going to be left again with nothing to do but pray, and he cannot hear that it matters.
(y’all, remind me to do a post about mulder + humor in s8)
BONUS: referring to his mother's house as "the vineyard" (various episodes)
this one isn't that deep to me but "scully, i'm at the vineyard" just IRKS me like it gets on my NERVES. just an obnoxious ass thing to say

To generate interest in my book, I've decided to share the first two chapters of Dr. Malice for free today!
Take a read and tell me what you think!
In the summer of 1989, the sleepy little town of Midway Falls, Virginia is plagued with bizarre power surges, missing people, and violent murders. Teenager Cammy Karnell finds herself at the center of it all when her brother vanishes without a trace. Determined to reunite her family, Cammy with help from her Galaga playing best friend Billy Brown investigate the bizarre occurrences going on in Midway Falls. As the rumors of government conspiracies and haunted arcades fly, the two teens come face to face with a supernatural force unlike any other in the heart of their local small town arcade. Now tasked with helping the ghost of a dead game developer remember his past and overcome his own inner demons, Cammy, Billy, and the entire population of Midway Falls are about to have the foundations of their lives rocked forever.
Tumblr media
June, 1989
“So you think I'm stupid, huh?”
A young girl rode with her older brother in his beat up red Honda Civic. The radio blared Young MC's “Bust a Move” as the two drove down through the downtown streets. The sun was setting, it was warm outside. Kids were walking down the street towards the same place the siblings were heading.
It was summer vacation, and the kids of Midway Falls were ready to have some fun.
Nick laughed, “That's what Dexter told me! He said there’s a ghost of an old man haunting Ants and snatches stupid little nerd kids like you straight into Hell!”
“Nick, I don't believe any of that for a minute,” the young girl said, brushing her fingers through her strawberry blonde hair, “I'm not a little kid anymore.”
“You don't believe it started bleeding out of the screen?”
“Dexter is an idiot, of course he’d believe garbage like that. That's why you hang out with him.”
“And who do you hang out with, Cammy? Huh? Huh? You're too big of a dweeb to have friends.”
Cammy huffed, “I have friends.”
“Yeah? Name one.”
“Billy is my friend.”
“Hardly counts, he’s a total dweeb. Then again, maybe that’s why you hang out with him!”
“Why don’t you keep your eyes on the road?”
Nick finally shut up and trained his eyes on the road again, singing along badly to the radio. Cammy was already getting a headache from him, but she was hoping once they got to the arcade she wouldn't have to deal with him much.
Their father was out of town on some fancy business trip. Their mother was working late, helping shut down the school before summer vacation was in full swing. Nick was going to the arcade with some of his friends, but mom insisted he couldn't leave his little sister at home. So he was forced to bring Cammy along against his will. She didn’t really want to come along with him either, but she didn’t have a choice in the matter either.
As long as she stayed out of his way, she'd be fine.
Nick sang along loudly as he punched her none too gently in the shoulder. She groaned and adjusted her glasses, already wishing she could jump out of the moving vehicle.
Finally, the car pulled up in the parking lot of a run down strip mall. Ivy snaked along the brick walls, threatening to consume them entirely. The neon lights glowed brightly on the front of the building, displaying “ANT'S ARCADE”. The “E” in “ARCADE” was flickering in and out periodically, appearing like the flashing light of a club. Other kids Cammy recognized from school were already going in. She was excited.
They got out of the car and strutted into the building. The arcade was full of kids playing on the machines, running around and watching others get high scores. Music was blaring while machines beeped and flashed bright colors. Just watching it was a thrill. Cammy couldn't wait to jump into the middle of it all.
“Shit.” Nick said, reaching into his pockets.
Cammy scowled, “You know mom said not to swear.”
“Shut up!” Nick shot back, “I forgot my quarters at home!”
“Well, sucks to be you then.”
Nick looked at her. His eyes trailed down to the purse hanging from her shoulder. He started smiling evilly.
Cammy took a few steps back, “Oh no you aren't! You did this the last time! I'm not giving you my quarters!”
“Fine then. I'll take ‘em!”
Nick snatched Cammy's purse off her shoulder, digging through it. Cammy cried out and tried to take it back, but he held it out of her reach. He pulled out all the quarters he could find and dropped it on the floor.
“Thanks, dork!” He taunted as he ran off to join his friends at the Operation Wolf cabinet, some stupid shooter war game Cammy had no interest in.
She picked her purse up off the floor and groaned. Nick had taken all of her quarters and left her with nothing. Now she couldn't play any of the games. She'd just be stuck here watching everyone else play for the next few hours.
Except...
There was someone she could talk to. Maybe he'd help her.
Cammy walked through the crowded rows of kids playing the games, reaching the front counter. An overweight balding man ran the counter, wiping down the surfaces and exchanging dollars for quarters. He wore a purple shirt with the arcade’s logo and mascot on it. His cargo shorts jingled with the sounds of quarters. When he saw Cammy, his eyes lit up and a smile crossed his face.
“Aaay! If it ain't Cammy!” He greeted her heartily, “How ya doing? How's your parents?”
Cammy smiled back at him weakly, “I'm good. They're good. Yeah. Umm... Mr. Ant, can I ask a favor?”
Mr. Ant perked a playful eyebrow, “Your brother stole your quarters again, huh?”
Cammy giggled awkwardly, “Yeah... I tried to stop him but he's too tall and held my purse out of my reach.”
Mr. Ant chuckled as he reached into his cargo shorts and pulled out a handful of quarters, handing them to Cammy, “Big brothers will be big brothers. If I see him taking your quarters again, I'll be sure to give him a firm talking to.”
Cammy grinned, taking the quarters and shoving them in her jean jacket pocket, “Thank you Mr. Ant. You're the best!”
“Go have some fun, kid,” he said to her, waving her off. She bounced away, looking for an open game to play.
That was a problem. All the games were full with kids waiting in line to play. Especially the newer games, like what Nick was playing with the pretty graphics and full colors. Cammy sighed as she walked towards the back of the arcade, where some of the older games were. There were less kids back here, but there were still quite a few taking up most of the cabinets. She'd still have to wait until her turn to play.
One of the kids was playing at the Galaga cabinet with a few of his friends. It was Cammy’s friend from school; a pudgy redhead kid named Billy Brown. Billy had just died in Galaga and was putting in his initials when he suddenly let out an angry yell.
“NQC beat my high score!!”
His friends gasped at the scoreboard. Cammy glanced at the screen to see Billy's initials, "BMB" had dropped to second place. At the first place position were the initials “NQC”. Cammy remembered hearing about Billy playing for almost ten hours straight to beat the previous high score that was previously held by NQC. Just a few days ago, he finally did it and claimed his title of number one high score on Galaga. But looking at the scoreboard, NQC had beaten that record by almost two thousand points.
The mysterious NQC held the number one record on every single cabinet in Ant's Arcade. He or she was an urban legend among the regulars at the arcade. No one ever saw them in action. No one, at least from Cammy's school, had the initials of NQC. Even skilled players couldn't come close to the same scores as NQC. Billy was one of the few who had accomplished it, and he only held it for maybe 72 hours.
“When I find NQC, I'm gonna give them a piece of my mind!” He shouted, “I can't believe they beat my high score already!!”
“I guess they're just that good,” one of his friends said, in awe at the score.
Cammy walked away from the group of boys to the very back of the arcade. Even though she was friends with Billy, she didn’t want to interrupt his game. Instead, she walked further back by the bathrooms in the corner, where one of the lights was out, leaving the corner dark. There, partially obscured by the shadows was a free cabinet. No one was playing it. Cammy approached it, looking up at the marquee. The bright red light glared down at her, illuminating the title of the game.
DR. MALICE
She had seen this game in passing when she had come to the arcade, but she never played it. Mainly because her mom told her to never play scary or violent games. And with the blood red marquee and dark cabinet design, it certainly looked like both of those.
But she just had her thirteenth birthday last month. She was a big girl. She had watched Children of the Corn with her big brother and only had nightmares for a week. She could handle anything!
The screen displayed the company name and title in fancy pixelated graphics. An animated sprite of a doctor ran across the bottom of the screen, chasing little green aliens. The screen read:
COYOPP INDUSTRIES INC.
PRESENTS
DR. MALICE
INSERT 1 COIN TO PLAY.
Cammy approached the cabinet. It was quite the intimidating machine; nearly twice her size and certainly thrice her weight. The bright red accents on the dark indigo finish seemed to glow with an almost alien-like power. She noticed there was a severe imperfection on the right side of the machine. The top part of the cabinet’s side was broken, slightly exposing the inside. It drew her curiosity even more, since she had never seen the inside of an arcade machine. She reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a quarter, pushing it into the coin slot. She placed her hands on the joystick and buttons, feeling an odd static shock as she did. She blamed it on her shoes building up static electricity from running across the carpet.
The game took a few seconds to load up, before it came up with a new screen that read:
LEVEL ONE:
DESTROY ALL ALIENS.
Her character was loaded into what looked like a laboratory. The graphics reminded her a bit of Street Fighter, one she had seen her brother play with his friends, but wasn't allowed to play because it was “too violent”. It also reminded her of Legend of Zelda, a game she would play on her brother's NES behind his back. She moved the character between several maze-like screens. One button threw a syringe, the other was a dodge button. The remaining two buttons seemed non-functional. It was easy to get the hang of.
As she entered a new room, a green alien was in the middle of the space. It turned and started charging. Quickly, Cammy disposed of the alien by throwing the syringe. It promptly exploded into rainbow colors, which she found rather charming. As she moved through the rooms, she cleared out a few more aliens and completed the level.
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU BEAT:
LEVEL 1.
As the next level loaded up, a little cut scene began to play. It was the doctor character approaching a table with an apple sitting on it. The doctor took the apple and ate it. As he did, text popped up below the scene.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A DOCTOR EATS AN APPLE?
Cammy raised an eyebrow at the odd question. Just as she was about to question it more, the doctor on the screen exploded into rainbow colors. The text changed to an awkward delivery of a joke.
HE'D PROBABLY EXPLODE OR SOMETHING. APPLES KEEP DOCTORS AWAY AFTER ALL.
Cammy found herself giggling at the dry humor. Yeah, it was kind of stupid, but she found it charming. It was just her kind of humor.
Once the cut scene completed, level two loaded up. It was more of the same with slightly more challenging enemy patterns. This level introduced a small puzzle section. It was a block pushing puzzle, something Cammy was very good at. Since it was still an early level, she had no problem navigating the blocks and getting her character through the room. Once she destroyed the last alien, the game congratulated her again and loaded up another cutscene similar to the first. This time, it featured two aliens in the middle of a conversation.
WHAT DID ONE ALIEN SAY TO THE OTHER?
I HAVE NO IDEA. I DON'T SPEAK ALIEN.
The stupid joke had Cammy laughing out loud. She was ashamed to say she found these silly jokes funny, but she couldn't help it. She didn't think such a scary looking game would have such a great sense of humor.
She ended up playing through quite a few levels, each one getting progressively more difficult, but always rewarding her with a cute cut scene joke. It was challenging. She lost a couple of lives, but she was rising through the levels quickly. In fact, a few of the other children had taken notice and were watching her play, cheering her on. Wanting to seem cool to everyone, she put in her best effort and began to show off.
“She's a natural!”
“How did she get so far in that game? I only got to level five!”
“Woah, you go Cammy!”
Cammy was smiling as she played. Everyone in the arcade was impressed with her skills. She knew she could conquer this game with no problem. Just as she was about to take out an entire room of aliens, a voice from across the room yelled at her.
“Why's everyone watching this dork play?”
Cammy was suddenly pushed from the cabinet by a pair of strong hands. She nearly fell on the floor, but managed to catch her balance before tumbling over. She looked up and saw her brother now standing at the cabinet. She watched in horror as her character was swarmed by aliens and she lost her last life, all thanks to her brother screwing her up.
GAME OVER.
Everyone was actually on her side and booed and hissed at Nick for ruining the game. Nick, being the jackass he was, didn't care.
“You guys really watching a girl play this stupid game?” he asked, “Betcha I can get to level thirteen on one quarter, no problem!”
Nick gloated more before he popped in a quarter, one of Cammy's quarters no less, and started a new game. The level loaded up again, putting Nick in a room with an alien. Not expecting to immediately face an enemy, Nick’s character was attacked and lost his first life. The kids started to laugh.
“Uh, uh, I'm just getting started,” he said nervously.
Cammy was entertained by the comedic timing of his death. Though in the back of her mind, she could have sworn there wasn't an enemy when she loaded up the first level.
Nick tried again, killing the first alien. He moved to the next room and was bombarded with three aliens. He managed to take out two before the last one got his character. He was already on his last life. The audience of children were snickering at his failure to even get halfway into the first level.
“I'm just getting started! Cammy had beginner's luck!” he insisted.
Once again, he loaded up the first level, killed the first alien, then moved into the next room to kill the three aliens. He moved into an empty room. Nick chuckled to himself as he moved the character through. But once the doctor reached the middle of the room, a hole opened up under him, and he disappeared.
YOU HAVE FALLEN INTO A PITFALL.
Nick was flabbergasted. The other kids continued to laugh at Nick's failed attempt to outdo his little sister. Cammy raised an eyebrow. Now that definitely hadn't been there when she played.
GAME OVER.
Underneath the game over was a sentence that almost seemed to be written in a snarky way.
YOU AREN'T THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER.
ARE YOU?
The laughter of the other children turned even louder at reading this. Nick's face turned red with a combination of embarrassment and rage.
“Did this piece of garbage just call me stupid?!” He demanded, backing away from the machine.
Cammy snickered under her breath, “Well, it confirmed what we already knew.”
The other children cackled at her snarky remark. Nick clenched his fists, glaring at Cammy before he turned back to the machine. He went around to the side of it, where the top part of the machine was partially broken. Breathing in heavy breaths, Nick shouted.
“YOU'RE THE STUPID PIECE OF SHIT!”
He drew back his leg and kicked the side of the machine hard enough to cause it to wobble. The already broken side of the machine came loose, falling out and right on to Nick. The sharp side cut his face, causing him to pull back and cover his face in shock and pain. He shouted expletives as he tried to get his face to stop bleeding.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON BACK HERE?!”
The other children, hearing the voice of an angry adult, scattered like flies, leaving Cammy and Nick alone by Dr. Malice. Mr. Ant stomped towards them, his face contorted into a scowl. He saw the broken arcade cabinet and the cut on Nick's face and immediately made the connection.
“What do you think you're doing, punk?! Tearing up my machines?! Those cost money, y'know!” Mr. Ant scolded the boy, “You gonna pay for the damages you caused? Cause I sure don't want to have to call your parents and tell them you broke one of my cabinets!”
Nick said nothing, just held his face and glared at Mr. Ant.
Mr. Ant stepped closer, speaking in a threatening voice, “What do you have to say for yourself, son?”
Nick looked down, clenching his teeth and his fists. He managed to croak out a very weak “Sorry.”
Mr. Ant sneered, “Get out of my arcade before I call the cops. Punks like you aren't welcome.”
Nick looked like he wanted to argue, but being face to face with the much larger, much scarier Mr. Ant left him speechless. He quickly darted away, holding his head down so none of the other kids would see him. The bell on the door tingled as he left.
Mr. Ant heaved a tired sigh. He turned back to Cammy, who still appeared shaken by the whole thing, “You alright, kid?”
Cammy nodded slowly, “Yeah, I'm okay, thank you.”
Mr. Ant went to pick up the side of the cabinet and try to put it back on the machine again, “Can't believe you two have the same parents. Ain't no way that little brat is related to you.”
Cammy shrugged, “I'm sorry about him.”
“Ah, don't apologize on his behalf. You're a good kid. You shouldn't have to put up with the likes of him.”
Mr. Ant was trying to put the side of the cabinet back into place, but the harsh kick from Nick had dented it in a way that it wouldn't fit properly. He swore under his breath. Cammy picked up on this and approached him.
“Are you okay, Mr. Ant?”
Mr. Ant looked down at her, his face contorted in frustration, “Huh? Oh, uh, yeah, yeah I'm alright. It's just this cabinet belonged to a very close friend of mine. It's one of the few things I have to remember him by.”
“So my brother kicking it was like an extra kick in the gut to you, huh?”
“You could say that, yeah.”
Mr. Ant reached into his pocket and produced a roll of duct tape. He looked at Cammy, “Hey, you mind taping this for me while I hold it in place?”
Cammy nodded as she grabbed the tape from  Mr. Ant. She carefully taped the broken side to the front and back of the cabinet, being careful not to wrinkle the tape. As she helped Mr. Ant, she managed to get a good view of the inside of the cabinet. It was unlike anything she had ever seen before; a tangle of wires and circuit boards connecting into a large CRT screen. It was very alien and almost a bit unsettling to see what went on behind the scenes of the games. Dust was kicked up from the inside, causing her and Mr. Ant to sneeze. It was almost like no one had touched the inside in over a decade, not even to repair it. Once she was done, Mr. Ant let go and the side stayed in place. It wasn't pretty with the damages on the top, the dent in the side, and now the ugly duct tape holding it together, but it was better than the entire inside of the cabinet being exposed for children to mess with.
“It'll have to do until I can call a maintenance man,” Mr. Ant said, “Thanks for your help, Cammy.”
Cammy smiled back, “You're welcome, Mr. Ant.”
Despite all the damages done to the cabinet, the game itself still seemed to be in working order.  Mr. Ant decided to stick an “OUT OF ORDER” sign on the controls anyways, likely to prevent other kids from damaging it further. Cammy was disappointed she couldn't try the game again, but she understood.
“Listen, for all your help, I'll give ya a few more quarters to play,”  Mr. Ant said, handing her another handful of quarters, “I'll make sure your brother stays out of trouble until it's time for you to go home. Now go have some fun.”
Mr. Ant waddled away, his cargo shorts jingling with quarters, leaving Cammy alone with the game. As she stared at the imposing cabinet, she couldn't help but ponder over what had just happened. How had the difficulty suddenly spiked when her brother played it? Where did all the extra enemies and traps come from that she never ran into? Did the game somehow... Change itself for her brother? Could games even do that? Surely they couldn't...
Cammy stared at the screen. The demo of the game played quietly.
...
What the...
Maybe she was going crazy, but for a split second, Cammy thought she saw the demo glitch into something else for a moment: a screen full of glitches that seemed to be forming some kind of pattern. Two black voids empty of any data seemed to stare back at her, full of some sort of malicious feeling. But just as quickly as she saw it, it was gone again. It left her feeling uneasy and nauseous, like someone was angry. Maybe not at her...
But at someone who had done wrong.
Feeling anxious, Cammy turned her back on the machine and quickly went to the other side of the arcade, far out of view of the Dr. Malice cabinet. Maybe she was just being paranoid, but she suddenly felt as if someone was watching her every move. She decided to distract herself by playing some of the two player racing games with the other kids at the arcade, which was lots of fun. She quickly forgot about the incident with the Dr. Malice cabinet and focused on enjoying herself.
Tumblr media
Midnight rolled around at Ant's Arcade. Mr. Ant slowly ushered the kids to the front door as he started closing down the arcade, bidding them a goodnight and a safe drive home. Cammy was one of those kids. As she walked out the door with the other kids, she saw that her brother's red Honda Civic was gone from the parking lot. She gave a frustrated sigh. She'd have to see if Mr. Ant would let her use the phone so she could call her mom to come pick her up.
Just then, a pudgy ginger boy squeezed between other kids leaving the arcade. Billy Brown ran up next to Cammy, looking out of breath. He waved at Cammy excitedly.
“Are you walking home?” He asked, “I can walk with you!”
Cammy agreed, as she knew it would be safer to walk with someone rather than alone. She said goodbye to Mr. Ant and strolled down the street with Billy. Other kids were walking back to their homes, but since Cammy and Billy lived on the outskirts, they had to walk further than everyone else. Eventually, they were the only ones on the street. The orange lamps lit the dark suburban streets, bathing everything in a warm, industrial glow. Billy was a very talkative kid. He talked about movies, games, and how he was going to practice even harder to defeat the mysterious NQC.
“Who do you think NQC is, Cammy?” he asked.
Cammy shrugged, “Your guess is as good as mine. But I'm sure they're one of the best players in the entire city. Maybe even the entire state.”
They walked in silence only for a little while before Billy spoke up again.
“I saw what your brother did to that machine,” he said solemnly, “What a jerk. And he left you here? Total dweeb. Him and Dexter and all their friends are a bunch of dweebs.”
Cammy chuckled, “Yeah, they are. I wish Nick never met Dexter, but I can't really stop them from being friends.”
“Dexter's the biggest jerk. I wish I was bigger and stronger, and then I can beat him up myself!”
They walked along. The only sound in the night was the occasional car passing by. They came across two lone vending machines, the low hum of their light breaking through the quiet night.
“Hold on, I wanna buy a candy bar.” Billy said, approaching the machines. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a dollar, putting it into the machine. The machine rejected the dollar at first, spitting it back out.
“Rats.” Billy said as he put the dollar back in. It once again spit the dollar back out, making him sigh, “These things never take my dollars!”
With a little more patience, Billy managed to get the machine to accept the dollar. With it, he punched in the numbers for a candy bar. As the machine began to eject the snack, there was a sudden surge of light before everything on the street turned pitch black. Billy screamed in fright while Cammy jumped back, startled at the sudden darkness around them. Just as quickly as the power went out, it came back on. Billy was holding on to the vending machine, looking terrified out of his mind. He locked eyes with Cammy and chuckled nervously.
“I uh... That wasn't me who screamed like a little girl!” he assured her as he tried to look strong by puffing out his chest.
Cammy looked around, her nerves a bit frayed, “More power surges. There’s been a lot lately.”
Billy distracted himself by grabbing the snack out of the machine. He looked out in the distance over the hills and fields to a well lit collection of buildings. Tall smokestacks rose into the air, spitting out smoke into the otherwise clear night sky. The harsh lights made the industrial area intimidating and unwelcoming. On the side of the largest building was a sign with a company name, both in English and Japanese:
JOUZU APPLIANCES AND ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING.
“My mom said it’s because of that factory they built last year.” Billy said, “She said something about they’re taking all our energy! I voted against it last year but they still built it! Or something like that. I don’t know. I stopped listening ‘cause she started ranting about the government.”
Cammy remembered her parents talking about a factory that was being built last year, and how so many residents of Midway Falls didn’t want it built here. But the government of the town went ahead and okayed the building anyway. It only started production a few months ago, but already it seemed to be causing problems. Most notably with the frequent surges that plagued the power grid. Lots of residents were getting angry. Some had even begun protesting outside the factory’s doors. But it was a fruitless effort. Cammy didn’t really understand why the adults were so riled up by it, but she agreed the surges were annoying and scary.
The two continued on at a faster rate this time, startled by the power surge. They reached the entrance of their neighborhood, where only the low hum of the street lamps cut through the dead silence of the night.
Cammy looked up, checking over her shoulder.
“What's wrong?” Billy asked, already digging into his candy bar.
“Did you hear that?”
“No. What is it?”
“It sounded like... Something heavy. Like it was being moved across the pavement.”
“I didn't hear anything.”
Cammy paused, trying to listen over the buzz of the street lamps. She didn't hear the noise again. Perhaps she was just imagining things.
“Sorry, I think the power surge freaked me out a little bit,” She said, continuing to walk.
“That's okay,” Billy replied with a chocolate covered smile, “I can take out anyone who tries to mess with us. I promise!”
They had finally reached Cammy's house at the end of the street. Billy finished off his candy bar and waved goodbye to her. The front porch was decorated with flowers and old rusting iron chairs. As she approached the porch, she was about to knock on it. She was startled as the door swung open and her mother April stood there, her keys in hand and in her pajamas. She looked down at Cammy, her expression partially obscured by her glasses and messy brown hair.
“Camellia! My goodness there you are!” she cried, taking her in a tight hug, “How did you get home?!”
Cammy, startled by the affection, spoke into her mother's shoulder, “I walked home with Billy.”
“Oh thank goodness, I was just about to come get you!” April said, bringing her inside the home, “To say I was worried when Nicholas came home without you... Well, that would have been an understatement!”
As they entered the kitchen, Cammy saw Nick sitting at the dining table. He had a bandage on his face and seemed to be avoiding their gaze. He looked ashamed. The kitchen was filled with the scent of cigarette smoke, overpowering the nice flowers that sat on the counter.
“Mr. Anthony left me a message on the answering machine,” April said, her tone suddenly becoming serious as she turned towards Nick, “He told me everything Nicholas did at the arcade, including pushing his little sister and stealing her quarters. Not only that, but he came home smelling like cigarette smoke again!”
Nick didn't look at them.
“Nicolas Robert Karnell, you better apologize to your sister right this minute,” April demanded, her tone slipping into that threatening mother tone, the tone all moms used when they wanted you to know you had really screwed up.
Nick hesitated, refusing to look up from the floor. He finally spoke, sounding none too sincere, “Sorry Cammy.”
April didn't look particularly happy with his tone, but decided to turn away and speak with Cammy, “Camellia honey, will you please go to your room for the rest of the night? I need to speak with your brother alone.”
Cammy quickly left the kitchen, going upstairs to her room. For the rest of her night, she stayed upstairs. As she moved around from the bathroom to her bedroom, she could hear her mother yelling at Nick, asking things like what was wrong with him, why he thought that was okay, was he doing it to impress Dexter and his friends, so on and so forth. She barely heard a peep out of Nick during the scolding. Finally, once Cammy turned out her lights and got into bed, she heard the sound of Nick's footsteps stomping up the stairs and into his room across the hall. He slammed the door hard enough to shake the walls. There was no doubt about it, he was grounded for a good few weeks, maybe even a month or more.
Cammy breathed a sigh of relief. At least Nick got a comeuppance for his poor behavior tonight. She snuggled into her sheets and fell fast asleep.
That night, Nick struggled to fall asleep. The cut on his face made it difficult to lay on that side of his body, since the pillow was pressing into the wound. The harsh scolding he had received from his mother also wasn't helping. He sighed as he stared up at the ceiling. He sat up and checked the clock on his night stand.
1:35 AM
Nick swore under his breath as he tried yet again to lay on his side. The cut hurt too much to put pressure on, so he returned to laying on his back. He closed his eyes and started to drift off.
Sniff sniff...
What was that weird smell?
Nick sat up again. His room was empty. He checked the clock on his nightstand again.
2:11 AM
Nick laid back down again. He swore he smelled something. Like... Something mechanical and coppery. Kind of like the smell of change. He felt... Oddly paranoid. He couldn't place why, but he was finding it impossible to go to sleep. Maybe it was all the yelling he had endured from his mother. Maybe he was feeling... Guilty.
Nick closed his eyes again. When he opened them, he was laying on his side facing the clock. Through his grogginess, he saw something... Odd.
  :     AM
Maybe another power surge had happened during the night while he dozed off and reset his clock. He didn't worry too much about it and dozed off again. He woke up again, feeling... Uncomfortable. He checked the clock again, and found a rather unsettling sight.
8:88 AM
Was the clock broken? That definitely wasn't right. As he sat up to reach for it, he froze. In the corner of his eye was something at the foot of his bed. Something... Tall. Solid. Unmoving. Nick turned, slowly, terrified at the prospect of someone invading his room. He faced the intruder head on.
It was an arcade machine, turned off, completely dead.
To say it startled him would have been an understatement, but he quickly started to laugh it off.
“Okay, you guys got me. That's really funny,” he said with a weak laugh, “You can come out now Cammy, I know this was a prank.”
As he stared at the machine, common sense got the better of him. How in the world would his petite sister get this giant thing into his room? Much less up the stairs and through the doorway?
How did this thing get into his room at this hour of the night?
Just then, Nick jumped as the marquee of the machine suddenly flipped on. He was bathed in a bright red light, illuminating his entire room. He looked down on the floor where a power cord from the machine was sitting.
Completely unplugged.
Nick dared to look up at the marquee. In stark red pixelated letters read the title.
DR. MALICE
A noise started to reverberate from the machine. A deep, synthy bass noise that rose and fell, almost like the breathing of a human.
“What... The... Hell…” Nick breathed, his voice catching in his throat.
Another noise came from the machine. This time, it was a voice, deeply compressed and bit-crushed. It spoke quietly, but just loud enough for Nick to hear it. It chilled him to the core.
“You… You think you're above the consequences?”
Nick started to say something, but felt as if his voice had been snatched from him. It was as if his throat was full of electrified needles, preventing him from speaking. His whole body became numb, like he had lost control of everything.
A deep, almost sadistic chuckle came from the machine, “Oh, you're gonna shut up and listen to me, boy. You've had too much time to talk. But I know just what you'd say anyways.”
The screen on the arcade machine flared to life, filled with strange, glitchy patterns. The glitches seemed to form two black holes on the screen, shaped like gouged out human eye sockets. They stared directly into Nick, seeing into the deepest recesses of his soul.
“I know your kind, Nicholas Karnell. I know what you're all about. I've seen your memories. I've seen the horrible things you've done, just to fit in. All the people you've hurt... Just to feel like you're somebody. Heh. Your kind never changes. Even after so many years.”
Nick's heart raced, thumping in his chest so loud, he could hear it in his ears. His body was soaked with sweat as he faced what he assumed was Satan himself in the form of an arcade cabinet. He wanted to apologize. He wanted to beg for forgiveness for kicking the machine. He wanted to fall at Cammy's feet and apologize for everything he had done to her. He wanted to change his ways right then and there.
But because his voice was gone, he was helpless to do anything.
The machine spoke again, the eyes on the screen narrowing into enraged slits, “You only wish to hurt the little guy. People like your sister, the so-called nerds... People... Like... Me.”
The screen turned off, but the marquee continued to glow. Another bit-crushed evil chuckle sounded from the machine. Something started to glow in the corner of the screen.
No...
Something was coming out of the screen.
A hand, a vaguely human hand, grabbed onto the edge of the controls, pulling itself forward and out, revealing an arm wearing some kind of surgical glove and white sleeve. Another hand came out of the opposite side of the screen, similar to the first. Both hands grabbed the edge of the controls and pulled with it a head full of dark, messy hair, shoulders wearing a white coat, and a chest... A chest with three distinct black spots, coated in red pixelated words that read “ERROR”. It was a man... But it was definitely not fully human. The form glitched and crackled with electricity, smelling like an electrical fire combined with the coppery scent of quarters. The voice spoke again.
“Well... Nicholas…”
The head of the... Man? Whatever it was looked up at Nick, its eyes obscured by a pair of thick glasses. It had no mouth. Only a nose and potentially eyes hiding behind the spectacles.
Wait... It did have a mouth.
No...
Where the mouth should have been was the start of a split that circled around the entire head. It was full of nothing but garbled, corrupted coding and glitches. The split opened wider, seeming to form into some kind of twisted and demented smile. The voice spoke, relishing in his fear.
“Who's the little guy now?”
The "mouth" opened wider, exposing more of the nightmarish nonsense inside as the figure grabbed Nick by the ankles. A jolt of electricity shot through his body, paralyzing him from head to toe as the monster from the cabinet slowly dragged him towards the machine. Adrenaline shot through Nick as he managed to flip over on his stomach and grab the foot of his bed, holding on for dear life. He tried to scream for Cammy, his mother, anybody, but his throat was filled with even more electrifying pins and needles than before. A sharp pain shot through Nick's side, causing him to let go of the bed frame. He was dragged into the screen of the arcade machine by the terrifying creature, disappearing from sight.
Silence. The machine sat still for a moment. The marquee slowly powered down, leaving the room in complete darkness. As silently as it had appeared, it was gone, leaving no trace of itself or the young boy it had just taken.
The clock on the nightstand read:
3:59 AM

Eden (Chapter 5) - Assassins Creed Syndicate Story
Jacob Frye x OC
“What about this place?” Jacob said, pointing to an ad.
“A bookstore?”
“You’re knowledgeable about a lot of things.”
I blushed. “Am I?”
“Don’t be modest. You’re a very bright woman. Maybe even smarter than my sister.”
“Now, that is a compliment I’ll take.”
Jacob linked his arms with me and led me toward the bookstore. “You don’t like her, do you?”
“She’s the one that has a problem with me, Jacob. I barely know her, and yet she hates me.”
“She doesn’t hate you.” I raised an eyebrow. “What! She doesn’t!”
“You keep telling yourself that, Jacob.”
“You’ve only met her three times.”
“One of those times she accused me of thievery.” Jacob was silent. “Exactly.”
“I know what we can do! Come to the train and have dinner with us!” Jacob suggested, and I nearly tripped.
“Sorry, what? Are you trying to kill me?”
“No. I’m trying to get Evie to like you. Once she knows you, she’ll love you like I do.” I stared blankly at Jacob as his words sank in. Jacob said he loved me. “Claudia?” Jacob said, sounding worried.
“You love me?” I asked.
Jacob’s face went red, and he looked away, embarrassed. “I guess I did.”
“J-Jacob. You barely know me,” I noted.
“I know. It’s silly. I’ve only just met you, but you’re different from other girls I’ve been with.”
I felt slightly jealous when Jacob mentioned being with other girls, but his confession had my heart racing. “Jacob...” I managed to say, my voice barely a whisper.
“I understand if you can’t say it back, and I won’t force you.”
“T-Thank you.”
Jacob lifted my hand and kissed it. “Now, about that bookstore.” Jacob dragged me towards the bookstore in question and managed to land me the job. Apparently, being knighted has its upsides.
Slowly, I started to integrate into London society. It felt odd not hiding away in the shadows, but it also felt good. I could enjoy life for once, something my father would be happy about.
A few weeks after settling into my new flat, I nervously joined Jacob on the train for dinner. My heart was pounding, and I couldn’t stop fidgeting with my dress, worried that one thing would give me away and Evie would uncover my secret. Jacob, however,  saw it as being nervous of Evie in general. Oh, how I wished it was that simple.
“Would you calm down? I can hear your heart racing.” Jacob said, taking my hand. “You’ll be fine.”
“Easy for you to say. What if I had a sister or brother who wanted you dead, and I brought you to dinner?”
Jacob rolled his eyes. “Evie doesn’t want you dead.”
I scoffed lightly. “Right.” The train arrived at the station, and we jumped on. Jacob led me straight to the dining car, not giving me the chance to run or calm myself down.

"Ready 3...2...now" he said and slowly we made our way to the car when me got the attention of 2 walkers making them all come after us. "RUN!" my dad said shooting a few but nothing happened they just got back up that was until he shot one in the head.
So that's how you kill the dead
We all made it into the car, "your hand..." my mom said and we all looked over to see a bite on the beck of my dad's hand. "Oh god" my sister said and she started to cry I tried my best to keep myself from breaking the dam in my eyes but failed
"It'll be okay, I'm sure there's something we can do" he said then opened a bag t-
"Drive DRIVE" my mom said as walkers gathered around us my father then stomped on the gas not caring about running them over. "Your a murderer" my mom said looking at my dad. "Didn't you hear what they said? THE DEAD WALK THE EARTH THERE ALREADY DEAD!" he yelled. "...you got infected...dad are you going to di-" I started but was stopped by my mather slapping me the slap was hard and full of anger. "No, we can find a way to help him" she said and I just nodded.
Rule number 1 stay quiet

"Shit" my dad said as the car slowed to a stop. "Where are we?" my sister asked. "A little ways from Atlanta, but we need to start walking ran out of gass, I'll carry the food you two carry your stuff and mom will carry first aid, and Rayne help me with this would you?" he said referring to his bite. "Okay" was all I said as my mom handed me some water a rag and bandages.
"There" I said and I finished wrapping up his hand. "Alrig- alright let's go" he said losing his balance a bit. "Maybe we should rest for a bit you look pale" my mom said and my father's face twitched. "I'll be fine now come on" he said grabbing the food. We then started walking.
-
"Can we please take a rest" my sister begged we had now been walking for hours and we were losing day light. "No we have to keep moving" my dad said. "My feet hurt!" she said this time in a way louder tone. "Shut the fuck up, do you not see the situation were in" father said but something wasn't right h...FUCK.
my father took another step and fell over the whites in his eyes were blood shot his skin getting paler and paler by the second I nealed down and put my hand to his four head he was buring up, and on top of that walkers were already on our track. "Mom help me" I said as I put my dad's riful over my shoulder and his arm around my neck for once in her life my mom listened and helpped him up we then stumbled onto a small cave. "Rayne, you go make sure it's safe" my mom said and Jade had already took my spot of holding dad Gun...Rayne...g-gun" my father said and I nodded taking the revolver out of his holster. "I don't even know how to shot i-" "just fucking do it Rayne stop being so pathetic" my mom scuffed and I just nodded I looked at the gun and seen my father's initials ingraved on the wooden handle. I walked over to the dark cave I picked up a rock and threw it,
It wasn't deep. I picked up my knife and my mom threw a flashlight at me I turned it on and shined it through the cave to walkers then started walking towards me and I just froze
I couldn't move…
I stood in fear till...
"Goodbye, -----" my father said letting the walkers get him.  "No!!" my mom yelled my father then fell the the floor the walkers eating him right in front of me, I felt something coming up as I covered my mouth and ran away from my mother and sister.
... He was the last person...the last person to ever say that name, my real name.
I turned to see my father stand up and walk towards me mom and sister.  "...its all my fault" I said as the walkers walked over to my mom and sister but before I could do anything my mom killed them, I then looked at my father one last time even though his guts were spilling out of him he was still moving, I grabbed my knife and walked over to him.  "KILL IT RAYNE FUCKING KILL IT!" my sister yelled acting like it wasnt our father.  "I'm so sorry" I said and lowered my knife to his head.
"I love you"
And with that, the knife had made contact with his head.  This was all my fault I sat there feeling tears down my face the a stinging pain, and another, then again, my mom was smacking me, for what I had done.
"You pathetic,  worthless, good for nothing idiot! Look what you did? he should have let you die!" my mom said but I didn't care all I could do was sit there looking over my dead father
His flannel, after a while my mom and sister went into the cave and when they did I took his flannel, it was too big for me so I wore it around my waste, I then walked into the cave to see my sister and mom eating, I was starving sure but how could I eat after what I had just done?

Detroit: Midnight
Chapter 2: New Day
__November 5th, 2038 // 3:24PM__
"I deeply apologize for the death of your daughter's nanny. what did you say happened to her?"
"A car hit her, stupid accident."
"Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Is your daughter oka-"
"Yeah, she's fine."
"Okay, then. Well, a new nanny will be watching Alice."
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
"As a matter of fact, here she comes now."
A woman entered the room and smiled upon seeing Alice.
"Please tell them your name."
"My name is Kara."
__November 5th, 2038 // 4:53PM__
As Todd drove through the city, Kara took a minute to look around. The statues of art and historical figures. Even a statue of a Midnight trying to block a human man's wooden stake. The sight of the statue made Kara's skin crawl.
She knew about the drug. She knew that it gave the recently dead a second chance. What she didn't know is what Midnight can do if a human, alive and well, gets a hold of the red liquid. She knew that the people called them "Modern Vampires" from what she's heard in overheard conversations while training to be Alice's nanny.
Todd drove through the neighborhood. The sight of the environment made Kara's stomach sink. This was Detroit. Well—what it used to be.
Run down houses, playgrounds, a dog park, everything that made Detroit at the time, was a run down. Some houses looked as if a small bomb had gone off inside it. Some even looked as if it was being eaten away by mold or radiation, not really. Todd house though, it was old. Never had a touch up of the white paint peeling on the outside of home. It's fence was clipped as if people were trying to break in.
Todd pulled into the drive way and get out the car. Kara would soon follow by getting out of the car as well. Once she looked up at the front door, Todd had already been there waiting for her. "You comin'?" Todd asked impatiently. "Yes, Todd." Kara said as she hurried to the front door and hurried inside.
As kara entered the house, her stomach sank once more as to seeing the interior of the home. Paint peeling on the walls, furniture old and falling apart, dishes piled high, trash haven't been taken out at all. "I don't care if your a nanny, maid or not." Todd started, making Kara lose her train of thought. "You do the dishes, do the laundry, you cook the dinners. Everything. Got it?" Todd finished looking to Kara fro an answer from her. "Yes, Todd." She replied.
"You also take care of- oh God. Where's the brat gone now!" Todd said looking around. "Alice? Alice! Oh there you are." Todd said seeing Alice, who was now sitting the stairs looking up at her father.
"Alice: Homework, getting dressed. Everything. Got that?" Todd said before storming off to the couch. "Yes Todd." "Start down here then work upstairs." Kara nodded and started on the trash taking it outside.
After finishing the trash, she'd start on the dishes. "Kara! Grab me a beer!" Kara grabbed Todd a beer and placed it on the coffee table in front of him. "I've finished, down here, I'll go start upstairs." Said Kara. Todd replied with an annoyed response. Kara headed upstairs and tidyed up Todd's room. She'd find a magazine. She'd pick up and find that it was layed open. She'd see a story inside.
"Man's daughter is the first child to be revived with Midnight."
Kara's heart sank. A parent spending a fortune on bringing their child back, only for them to stay the same age and height till their parents pass. Kara put the magazine down and started on the other rooms before lastly coming to Alice's room.
Upon entering Alice's room, Alice ran to her sheet fort and hid from Kara. "I'm just going to tidy up your room, Alice. I only need 5 minutes. Are you okay with that?" Kara began cleaning Alice's room.
Tidying up Alice's bed, Kara noticed a book on the floor. "Alice In Wonderland. Of course." Kara said with a smile. Kara knelt in front of Alice. "I hope we can have a nice bond like you and the other Nanny had." Kara said with a soft smile. Alice only looked up at her and played with her toy. "You look bored, what do you like to do for fun?" Alice got up and went to run out the room, I kynto turn around and hand Kara a key before running out the room.
Kara stood up before realizing where the key went to. Kara walked up to the box on Alice's dresser before unlocking it. Music started to play from it. Kara looked inside the the music box and pulled out drawings. As she looked through the drawings, she saw a process of Alice playing with her past nanny, to Alice then being covered in the Nanny's blood. The next and last drawing showed the bloodied nanny and Alice's father holiday gun.
Kara quickly and hurriedly our everything back into the music box before closing it. Kara quickly made her way done the stairs to tell Todd she had finished the upstairs, only to see Todd slowly approach Alice.
"Whatcha doin'?" Asked Todd. "Playing." Said Alice. "Playing..." Todd repeated. "This is all your fault. All of this is your fault." Kara stayed there, standing still on the stairs making sure not to be seen. Kara's heart sank. "You hate me, don't you?" Asked Todd. "Say you hate me." Todd ordered Alice. Todd picked Alice up and screamed at Alice. "SAY YOU HATE ME!!!"
Todd saw the stream of tears running down Alice's face. Todd started tearing up seeing his daughter cry, regretting what he'd done. "Oh God, what am I doing?" He asked himself. "I'm so sorry, I love you so much." Todd started. "You know I love you, right?" Todd said as he sobbed as he held his daughter in a tight embrace.
All Kara could do was watch as it all unfolded. Her heart ached for Alice. She wanted to help her, but she knew with the state Todd is in and how he treats his win daughter, Kara can't even imagine what would happen if she were to do something about Todd's abuse to Alice.

Lupin III Chapter 40 Review
hi tumblr it's me day 2 let's see how long i can go for once again never take any of this seriously this is just for fun ok thanks
Tumblr media
this chapter starts out with a sussy looking man trying to escape out of prison!!! who the fuck is he????
Tumblr media
from the left bottom panel over there we can see that he's been caught by the police, who then escorts him in a car with two other people who seem to know him
Tumblr media
look at their faces thats very sus
then we switch to kid lupin in his mansion listening into the convo happening in the police's car it seems to be connected to the police's walkie talkie but suddenly! he is in shock and bolts out the house what did he hear in the walkie talkie?? and where is he going???
Tumblr media
well well well the walkie talkie speaks of the various prison escapees... and one of them, the man whom we saw escaping earlier WAS NONE OTHER THAN LUPIN II, HIS FATHER!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
i hate him so much anyways ahem ahem Lupin iii on the other hand runs out to a cemetery, which houses the gravestone of his father?? he is equally just as shocked to hear this chapter plot twist, his father whom he thought was dead was alive all along!?
Tumblr media
apparently it was arsene lupin that told him that his father was dead, we never get told why he did it, but i wonder maybe because a lupin who fails at his job is no longer a lupin in his eyes, so since lupin ii was captured and thrown in jail, he is nothing but dead to him it can also possibly explain why lupin iii got put in so much rigorous training at such a young age and become conditioned to pass on arsene's legacy because his son couldnt but enough with overanalyzing the plot, let's move on
Tumblr media
ANOTHER lady (i dont think its been the same one since this entire kid lupin series???) appears and says that she's known the truth for years now and i guess they just go back to the mansion ah yes ive learned that my father is actually alive lets not do anything about it nah jk hes probably trying to process everything poor kid
Tumblr media
going back to lupin ii's side, the police turns out to be one of his allies and gets them out of prison along with handing them guns n shit then one of his friends just shoots the police??? and lupin ii is reasonably pissed like wtf you killed the dude that worked with us then the guy reasons that the guy is still a cop and they still shouldnt trust ok whatever fine lets go with that then
Tumblr media
i cant bro is so angry apparently in this panel he says "HE WAS MY BEST CONTACT!" and im just wondering what he meant by that maybe its just tokyopop translation spouting bs again but it may just be something from the og manga im thinking maybe he was trying to monitor lupin iii? currently the plot isn't at the point where i can explain my idea though
now his next plan is to find lupin iii, whoom he claims is posing as a fake and his son was supposed to be dead???? shits getting wild
Tumblr media
theres so much shit to absorb in just these panels
the cityscape looks so fucking cool???? i want to draw like that…
LUPIN III IS JUST LYING ON HIS COUCH HOLDING A TV UP TO HIS FACE??? HES JUST USING IT AS AN IPAD HELP IF THAT ISNT THE FUNNIEST WAY TO WATCH TV EVER IDK WHAT IS
LUPIN II JUST FUCKING POPS OUT OF NOWHERE??? IS BRO FLOATING PYCAL STYLE????
anyways lupin iii gets attacked by them prison men! lupin iii sees his dad and hes like you're not my dad prove it to me then lupin ii is like you're not my son!
Tumblr media
then they like fight or something
lupin ii holds the woman earlier hostage and is about to rape her, then lupin iii says that they're surrounded by the police and hes about to get arrested anyway (this is so stupid) then lupin iii leaves thinking hell get arrested, and it turns out that the woman and lupin ii were just faking it and this was just a test for lupin iii
Tumblr media
Panel 1: "You can put your clothes on." "Oh, are we done now?" Panel 2: "He's not ready to take over the family business." "Well, at least tell him the truth, you owe him that much." Panel 3: "Not yet." "Not until he proves his worth."
the lupin family is just like a traditional asian family you better start burning at least 90 houses until you're allowed to eat dinner again then lupin ii retreats and dresses up as a police officer, he tricks the detective guy (from the earlier chapter) into thinking that he has escaped into the mountains
Tumblr media
then he hops on a motorcycle to escape, and oh? it seems like lupin iii already found out his plan and was camping in the sidecar to wait for him but unfortunately… his father rams him onto a tree.
Tumblr media
great job lupin ii great treatment of your son you havent seen in years  but this is the end of the kid lupin chapters! we will be resuming back to the monkey man tomorrow. (nevermind i have something else planned for tomorrow no chapter 41 til thursday) lupin ii will never been seen in the lupin manga for a long long time…
also i like how this chapter singlehandedly explains why motorcycles with sidecars are no longer a thing anymore today.

" in a given space a witch who cast them can use her magic " you repeat her words now fully back to your previous state
" Runes "
Tumblr media
agatha shake her head in disbelief
" thank for the lesson . but i don't need you to tell me who ....I am " the crown start to form in your head eyes start to glow
Tumblr media
"no.... no " agatha whisper
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you let the powers that taken from you back to you. agatha wails as the power flow out from her to your chest making you cover in red mist glow brightly around you .
the Winchester and Mikealsons brothers look at you in disbelief with Bonnie and Stefan.
"you're also seeing this right ?"
"yes, kol " Elijah said  .
kol never seen someone like you or your magic you're a whole new definition of what a witch is. klaus could only think about how powerful and fearless you were when he first saw he was blown out his Brian. Elijah knew you were more than what they say to be . sam know when he saw a pain in your eyes that you are not just some power hungry witch all he wanted to help you. he know what is like to lose everything you have and you only reacted the way you know he want to hold you close and tell you it's not your fault. dean never had good history with witches expect charile. take you out was his plan from the beginning but after realising what happened to you he began to think otherwise you are gorgeous and powerful.
there you float in glory , in your new suit, eyes glowing,  the harbinger of chaso , the scarlet witch.
agatha  stare frightened at your true state " oh, God what have you done "you move your fingers gracefully softly landing on the ground.
agatha look up to you " so what now . you're going to lock me up somewhere"
"not somewhere. here "
"what.... what you mean? "
" I'm going to give you a perfect role for the world I create " you walk towards her
" what....no "
" a nosey neighbor "
"no... please" she plead you for your kindness
"I'm sorry" You mutter looking down at her
"no you're not. you're cruel " you let a small smrik play on your lip where only she can see it. "you have no idea what you unleashed. you're gonna need me " she try to reason with you.
" I will know where to find you " you said calmly you stand inches away from her.
"no.. wait  ...wait .. wait.. no " you touch the side of her head transforming agatha into a nosey neighbor state
"you live here now, no one will ever bother you here"
"say that some get up you're wearing" Agatha let out a giggle you smile at her.
" I will be seeing you Agnes "you turn and walk away.
" not if I see you first hon " she excitedly shout.
you walk towards where you family standing. you scrunch your nose with a smile when you see your boys run towards you hugging your waist.
"mom".you kiss there head soaking in there presence. Alex let you have a moment with them .
the boys look at there dad seeing him standing few feets away and you still hugging . the boys both nodded at each other they speed away to Bonnie.
Alex laugh at his sons antics as he made his way towards you.
" hey you alright petal? " you smile at the Nickname.
" yeah . I'm alright " he press his body towards and lean down to you letting his forehead connect on your own, arms around your waist with a tight grip. you let you hand rest on his chest as he kiss your temple . You part from each other you cares his cheeks and he put his hands over yours and press a kiss on your palm you smile warmly at him .
"boys " you call them making them stop playing with sams arms as they measure his height.you walk towards them as boys meets you half way .
You knowingly node at the people who stand there watching you and they nodded at you .

Part 3
Eric is hired to eliminate a Vampire, but this case is showing a few too many red flags for his liking.
Written in the present tense
Warnings: Use of guns, swearing
Word Count: 1079
Notes: The Detective made on cooltext.com
Tumblr media
Fast asleep on his bed, Eric remains oblivious to the moving lights outside his window. But is soon woken by the sound of his door breaking and immediately grabs the dagger on his bedside as footsteps approach the apartment door. It gets broken in and people in uniform aim their guns at him. Realising he's brought a knife to a gunfight, he sets the blade down and raises his hands.
Eric - Okay, who did I piss off?
Man - No one, yet.
A man in a suit steps in, switching the light on.
Man - Mr Eric Willow? Investigator of the supernatural.
Eric - Something tells me you already know that.
The man scoffs.
Eric - This is the part you tell me who you are and why you broke two of my doors so I know who to take to legal action against.
Richard - My name is Richard Dukes.
Eric - The bloke running for mayor? Didn't know you had a private army.
Richard - Private security firm I hired during my campaign run. You can never be too careful.
Eric - Uh huh. You better explain why you're here.
Richard - I wish to hire you for a job.
Eric - Could have turned up in the morning or made an appointment.
Richard - This is something off the books. For the matter of my family.
The mention of off the books immediately puts Eric on edge.
Richard - A few weeks ago, my son met a woman.
Eric - Good for him.
Richard - Except she's a Vampire who wants to kill him.
Eric - Oh. Right. Well now we're in my territory.
Richard - I want her taken out. For the sake of my son. You'll be provided with all the resources you need. I expect it done as soon as possible. Understood?
With all the security around him, Eric knows that Richard isn't asking.
Richard - You'll be compensated for your silence in the matter after. Ten thousand should cover your doors.
Eric - (This guy ain't messing around.) Fine.
Tumblr media
With the sun now up, Eric sets up a temporary fix for the broken main door. Outside, a few security members stand ready. Realising that this will be a thing until the job is done, Eric goes over to grab a couple stakes before heading out.
In the car, he looks over the information provided to him, and it's obvious that Dukes has done his homework on his son's new girlfriend. A name, photo, everything. But there is something bugging Eric about this case, something that doesn't add up. But rather than raise any questions and risk the consequences, he keeps his thoughts to himself.
Tumblr media
Once he is dropped off at a hotel, Eric heads inside, making for the stairwell. As he makes his way up the stairs, he ends up thinking out loud.
Eric - Okay, Vampire, Politician. Bunch of red flags. Why am I doing this?! Oh yeah, to fix my bleeping door.
He sighs as he checks the papers again and rolls his eyes, heading out into the corridor. He goes to the elevator, deciding he doesn't want to do the stairs all the way to the top of the building.
After a much quicker elevator ride, Eric steps out and goes to the room number that is in his information folder. Knocking on the door, he puts his thumb over the spyhole, despite the fact that he knows the Vampire will know he's there. The door opens to a woman matching the photo.
Woman - Can I help you?
Eric - Hi. Richard Dukes sent me to kill you for apparently wanting to suck the blood out of his son who you're dating.
Woman - I sense a but coming.
Eric - But I have a feeling there's more to this.
Man - Who is it?
The woman looks to Eric, nodding behind her.
Woman - Come on in.
Eric follows the woman into the room where he finds a man sat on the sofa.
Eric - Evening.
Woman - He was sent by your father.
Eric - Tom, right?
Tom - Yeah.
Ava - My name's Laura. I'm a Dhampir. We met and instantly connected. I have no intentions of killing Tom.
Eric nods.
Eric - All of this has stunk from the beginning. So why does he want you dead?
Tom - Because she's not who he picked. And he has some weird grudge against the supernatural world.
Eric - Oh great. A prick. No offense.
Tom - None taken. You're completely right.
Eric - Well. Enjoy your evening you two. Good luck for the future.
Laura - You're not going to kill me.
Eric - I see no reason to.
Eric takes his leave, much to the surprise of the couple.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, the soldiers surround Eric as Richard takes a seat opposite him.
Richard - I hired you to do a job. I gave you all the information you needed. What are you thinking! Why does she still live?!
Eric - You wanted me to kill an innocent woman. All because you don't like her. I want nothing to do with any of this. In fact, I made sure of it on my way here.
Blue lights flash outside as two Police officers step in.
Richard - You've made a dangerous enemy, Mr. Willow.
Eric - I gave them the folder you gave me. I'm not who they're here for.
Police #1 - Richard Dukes, you're under arrest for the attempted murder of Laura Bailey.
Richard is handcuffed and soon taken away, leaving Eric with the soldiers.
Eric - Look, I'd just go home, perhaps start searching for new employment.
The soldiers look around at each other and soon take their leave. Now on his own, Eric grabs a toolbox and reattaches the door.
Eric - That'll do as a temporary solution.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Laura drops by Eric's office, finding him on the phone.
Eric - Yeah, it's good for the short term... Thursday works... Yeah, I'll be in... thank you... bye.
He sets the phone down and gestures to the seat across from him.
Eric - Sorry about all that last night.
Laura - Forgotten. I came by to thank you.
Eric - I've seen different kinds of evil, different kinds of monsters. None of it was in that hotel room. But last night, it was sat where you are now.

"We don't need a map," Alma rolls her eyes. "We take the bus to the museum, see the stuff there, then take the same one home!"
"But Mum-"
"Mum said I'm in charge while she takes Doug to hospital, and we were supposed to go to the museum today anyway. Don't you still want to go?"
Louis frowns, but nods and walks after her.
--
"Oh ew," Stede grimaces and holds out his phone to Ed.
"Whoa," Ed peers closer. "What is it?"
"Doug's finger."
"Oh god...well, Mary has said he's very enthusiastic-"
"Edward! He was chopping up vegetables."
Ed raises a brow. "Is that what the kids call it now?"
"We need to go; the kids are at their place alone right now," Stede says, waving down their waiter. "I'm sure they'll be fine, but-"
"So what was he chopping to fuck himself up that badly?"
"Does it really matter?!"
"Kinda."
"...cucumber."
"Ha! Knew it."
--
"Alma-"
"If you want to do big kid things, then you can't be a baby about it. Are you going to keep being a baby?"
She holds his hand and drags him through the crowd by the bus stop. "See? We're already at the bus!"
He doesn't want to be a baby, but also, their mum has never once said they were allowed to go on the bus alone, or to walk any further than down the block to see friends that lived there.
He holds her hand tighter.
--
"We brought fancy desser-" Ed stops. "Kids? "
"Maybe they're in the backyard," Stede says. "Probably horribly traumatised by seeing that bloodbath."
Ed motions to the two plastic cartoon character covered plates on the table. "Plates are cleaned."
"Well, let's get to looking anyway."
The yard is empty. Their rooms, empty. The entire house, empty.
"Take a breath," Ed sets the styrofoam container with the cheesecake bites into the fridge. "Stede."
But he's in a thousand yard staring contest with the empty plates. He'll own, now at least, that he's been far from the best father.
He's been trying to do better though, and you can't do better if your kids are lost or dead or kidnapped or-
"Okay," Ed gently pushes him towards the door. "We're gonna go walk around and see if they're running around playing with their friends. I bet they are! Then we'll come back and have cheesecake."
--
"I don't have enough money for snacks," Alma sighs. "We just ate lunch!"
"Mum says I'm growing and need-"
"Oh my god, she just says that so you'll eat your vegetables!"
Louis blinks. He'd never thought of that, and he certainly won't forget it now.
"Okay. I'm sorry I asked."
Alma wraps an arm around his shoulder. "Look, we're almost to the museum. Sometimes they have exhibits about foods from other places with samples, maybe there'll be one there today."
He leans into her and tries to watch the cars passing by on the other side of the street, hoping one might be Mum and Doug.
--
"Stede," Ed says, hands on his shoulders. "Look at me."
He's already been sick in the gutter, after the last house that had the same answer as the rest: no, they haven't seen the kids all day.
"It's fine. Kids get adventurous!"
"There's a huge main road close; they probably tried to cross it," Stede fumbles for his phone. "They put out alerts if they find hurt kids, right? Or missing kids?"
"Alma has her cheap phone for emergencies," Ed says. "Call her, and I bet they just went another block over or two. A little bit of rebellion since they got a surprise moment of freedom!"
--
"Hey Dad," Alma says into the chunky, slightly out of date flip phone. "We're just hanging out waiting for Mum and Doug to get back."
"I wanna hear!" Louis snags the phone from her hand and runs to an open bench in the museum lobby. "Dad? We need help-"
"No we don't!" Alma plucks the phone away. "He's scared for Doug, that's all."
"It's loud and I'm scared and we're at the mu-"
"Shut up!"
The phone snaps shut, and they both shut up.
"You hung up on him," Louis says. "You're gonna be in so much trouble!"
"I'll call him back and say it was an accident. Now, I think we should start with the dinosaurs..."
--
"You can go faster on this road," Stede snaps.
"Hey," Ed flashes him a look before turning back to the road. "I'm worried about them too, but that's not fucking necessary."
"I know. I'm sorry."
"Look, you said it sounded busy, and Louis shouted out that it was loud. Middle of the day like this, there's a few spots that might be more likely than others."
"The mall isn't far."
"I don't think kids hang out at the mall much anymore. Not at their ages, that's for sure."
Stede frowns. "Right. The library is a bit far for them, but it wouldn't be that noisy."
"Well, we'll just drive around until we find them then."
--
"He's not answering," Alma says softly. "He almost always picks up."
"Maybe he figured we were okay after you hung up on him."
"Stop saying that!"
Louis shrugs. "You did. Do you think if giant sloths were still real you could ride them?"
"What?!"
"Like, instead of riding the bus-"
"Dad isn't answering, and this is what you're worried about?!"
He shrugs again, and sneaks another bit of popcorn from the box of the kid standing next to them.
She wanted to go to the museum, and they're at the museum, and he's trying to have fun even!
There's simply no pleasing a sister.
--
"Museum is the last place that might be that loud," Stede sighs. "There's no school today so I'm sure everyone is out there with their kids."
"That's not so bad," Ed signals to turn, and reroutes them towards the museum. "It's farther away than ideal, but if they're there, they did it safely."
"I'm...I have a lot of thoughts right now, about that. Not all of them that happy."
"Fair enough. They also really shouldn't have left like that without at least telling us-"
Stede chuckles. "I forget you and Izzy used to run rampant as kids."
"And we survived! We're fine!"
"You've both been in therapy on and off for issues with your families for the last two years."
Ed smirks. "And now we're fine! More fine than we were before!"
"Oh my god-"
"Got you to smile a little!"
--
"Louis, stay here!"
Alma looks ready to cry.
"I'm not going anywhere," he grabs her hand and pats it. "It's okay. Dad will answer again. Maybe someone else called him and he can't get off the phone yet."
She drops onto the marble and bench and sobs. "Louis, he's mad at me."
"You don't know that."
"Then why won't he answer?!"
He sits beside her and hugs her. "I don't know. When does the bus to go home leave?"
"I don't remember."
"Oh."
--
"Let's take a minute before we go in," Ed snags Stede's arm. "Deep breath. They're just kids. Kids fuck up and do stupid, absolutely terrifying shit. But they don't mean anything malicious by doing it."
"I know," Stede nods, but his eyes are scanning over the crowds milling in and out of the museum. "But they need to know that this was dangerous."
"And we can tell them that without flipping the fuck out."
"Your therapist is too damn good sometimes."
Ed smiles. "I know, right? It's almost irritating."
"It is."
--
"I'm gonna go find a security guard," Louis says. "Or an adult like the lady at the front desk. They'll get us home or call Mum."
"That's not better!"
Louis sighs and sits back down by Alma, patting her back again. "They're gonna be mad. We can't do anything about that now. But we got to see the dinosaurs, and I got popcorn, and you got to see your favourite dress in the old clothes part, right?"
She sniffles and nods.
"Then we had fun, like you said we would. And it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't got us here."
"Yeah."
"Want me to stay here?"
"Yeah."
--
"Like me except smaller!" Stede stresses to the increasingly befuddled security guard. "They didn't have an adult with them; aren't you supposed to be looking out for things like that?!"
"Sir-"
"He's worried; I'm sorry," Ed smiles and quickly but gently tugs Stede away. "Hey. Let's just look ourselves. They're probably still here, looking at stuff themselves."
"You're right," Stede nods. "Okay. Let's-"
He turns to lead the way, only to let out a grunt as Alma runs directly into him, head into his gut.
"I didn't mean to hang up on you!"
Ed kneels down for Louis. "Hey! Everything okay?"
"Kinda. Alma did a good job getting us here, but we couldn't remember when the bus would leave to take us back."
He scoops Louis up. "That's not bad for kids your age!"
Stede groans and lifts Alma up. "You're almost too big for this, you know?"
She wraps her arms tighter around his neck.
"Not yet she isn't, thankfully," Ed remarks, and leans behind Stede's shoulder to try and see her face. "Hey kid. You did okay."
"We should have stayed home," is the sobbed response.
"Probably, but now you know for next time," he continues. "Wait and ask one of us, or Mum or Doug instead before heading out on your own, yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Well then," Stede sighs. "Let's work on the story. To explain the tears, maybe you stubbed your toe outside?"
"Babe, we asked all the neighbours where they were," Ed murmurs. "Can't lie to Mary and Doug about this anyway, you know that."
"Right. We'll plan how to tell them about it instead, over those cheesecake things-"
Alma's head pops up slightly. "You brought us cheesecake?"
"Not here, but at the house," Stede continues. "Should we get you two home?"
"Yes please."
"And it's okay, by the way. My phone battery died on the way here, so you couldn't have called me back anyway, sweetheart."
They both snicker lovingly at the frustrated "Oh my god!" from her.

The Playlist: Track 6: Two 📼
"It’s okay if you can't catch your breath you can take the oxygen straight out of my own chest”
Osamu x reader (kinda) heavily feat. Atsumu
cw. reader is refered to as mom, character death
Two by Sleeping At Last
Tumblr media
“What?” you ask breathlessly, truly not believing what the doctor had said, not wanting to believe it, not needing to believe it, because it wasn’t true, it can’t be.
He repeats, “your husband, ma’am, he didn’t make it, I’m so sorry.”
There’s a tug at the end of your sleeve and you take a deep, shaky inhale as you force yourself to look down.
“Mommy, where’s daddy?” your son asks, and your daughter, who’s holding his hand is as eager for the answer.
I know exactly how the rule goes:
Put my mask on first
“Y/N,” Atsumu says sternly.
You were in the twin's room, picking up toys, and using cleaning as a distraction to ignore your brother-in-law.
“Y/N.”
“I’m busy, Tsumu.”
“Y/N!” he all but screams and you drop the stuffed animal.
“No,” you tell him, “not yet.”
“Ya can’t-”
“I can,” you assure him.
Just then, the twins came running into the room. Ousmane holding his little sister's hand as tears stream down her face.
“What’s wrong, cupcake?” Atsumu asks, bending down to her level.
“The- they- the kids at schoo- keepmakingfun-”
“Slow down, take a deep breath okay,” he encourages.
“What happened?” you question Ousmane.
He sighs, “they’re having a father-daughter dance, and they’re making fun of her because she doesn’t have one.”
Immediately, you scoop up your daughter, rubbing her back the way your husband used to when trying to soothe her.
No, I don't want to talk about myself
You look back at Atsumu and shake your head,
A look that says, ‘not now,’ but he knows you well enough to know you really mean, ‘not ever.’
Tell me where it hurts
Tell me, is something wrong?
If something's wrong, you can count on me
Five years, it had been five years since Osamu passed and you had done your best to not mention him, not even once. The twins are now two weeks away from middle school and all of Ousmane’s teachers gush about how wonderful a student he is every chance they get. And Atari- but Atari-
“Mom!”
It’s two in the morning. You’re wrapped up in Osamu’s hoodie, sleeping- or at least trying to sleep, laid on what used to be his side of the bed when you can hear your daughter's voice calling you from down the hall.
You get to her room as fast as you can and take a seat at the foot of her bed.
“Hey baby,” you softly say.
You have bags under your eyes and your eyes themselves are bloodshot. Atari feels a sting of guilt and you notice it on her face.
“It’s fine, I wasn’t sleeping much anyway,” you confess, trying to make a joke out of it but you couldn’t even bring yourself to fake a laugh.
“Mom-”
“What’s up?”
“Can you tell me about him? About Dad?”
“Um-”
You’d honestly rather die. You’d rather die than to say his name again, bring up memories that will now only be memories because the love of your life is gone and gone forever. You’d rather die than to speak of him in the past tense than to acknowledge that your life with him would forever be in the past because acknowledging that means that he really is dead. And even after five years, three months, one week, and six days, you still can’t bring yourself to accept. So when your daughter asks if you can talk about him, you’d honestly rather die.
“Um-” you pause, “I met him when I was twenty-three, he had just opened the Onigiri shop and he had that little hat so when I went up to the register, I said-”
You know I'll take my heart clean apart, if it helps your's beat
It's okay if you can't find the words
“Mom,” Ousmane says to you, nearly choking on his words.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” you assure him, “you guys go in the car.”
“Mom it’s getting cold,” Atari warns.
“I know it’ll just be a minute,” you swear and the kids linger on for a little while before you shoo them away.
Once they’re far enough away, you crouch down and lightly dust off the piece of stone, until the words engraved on it are visible. You bring your fingers to your lips, kissing them then placing it on the stone.
“Happy birthday love,” you whisper, looking back towards the car, “we all miss you.”
Let me take your coat
And this weight off of your shoulders
Like a tidal wave, we'll make a mess
When Osamu’s tenth death anniversary hit, the kids were now in high school, second years to be exact. Now old enough to grasp how hard this day is for you, you wake up to the smell of rice cooking- no- burning.
Your two sixteen-year-olds are in the kitchen, scrambling around each other two seconds away from starting a fire.
“The seaweeds all wet!” Atari screams.
“It’s supposed to be!” Ousmane yells back.
“You made it soggy dumbass!”
“And you burned the rice!”
“So? Are you hoping the moisture from that will go back into it?”
The twins keep screaming at each other and usually, you would stop them but now all you could do was laugh. They stop and turn to you, not only surprised by your presence but the sound of you being happy. It feels like it’s been years since they’ve heard you laugh. And their favorite thing about your laugh, which was Osamu’s favorite too, is that whenever you laughed, it was always contagious.
Or calm waters, if that serves you best
Atsumu invited you out for drinks. With Atari at a friend's house and Ousmane away at camp before his basketball team's finals, you finally had a night where you could say yes.
“Another round for me and my sister!” Atsumu calls and you laugh.
“You sure are being generous,” you note.
“Why wouldn’t I be? I mean we’ve barely hung out like this in, since-”
“Since he passed,” you realize, and his eyes go wide, “soon,” you tell him and he nods.
And maybe one day I will get around to fixing myself too
Like a force to be reckoned with
A mighty ocean or a gentle kiss
You bring both of your kids in for a hug and place a kiss on each of their heads.
“Mom, don’t cry,” Ousmane begs, trying to keep the tears back himself.
“Hard not you,” you joke, tears already falling, “my babies are all grown up.”
“It’s just high school, Mom,” Atari says.
“Miya’s!” one of their friends screams, “they’re about to call our class let’s go!”
“Go, go,” you tell them.
You bring your hands up to your mouth and take a deep exhale of relief. You look up at the sky, whispering, “wish you could see this too, but I’m proud enough for the both of us.”
I will love you with every single thing I have
And what a privilege it is to love
A great honor to hold you up
At their graduation party, Atsumu slung his arm around you as you both watch your kids in awe.
“He would be proud,” he tells you.
“Yeah, I think so too, they did so-”
“I mean you,” he clarifies, “ya did great.”
“I did n-”
“Shut up if ya gonna try and deny it. Ya did great, they turned out great because ya raised 'em right despite everything.”
“I- thanks Tsumu.”
“Mhm.”
“You two sit in silence for a minute before you mutter, “now.”
I will love you without any strings attached
Atsumu has had your back since Osamu first introduced you. He loved you like he’d known you all his life and never did he ask for anything in return. You trust him more than you trust yourself so when he gives you a card, you take it.
You walk into the office building, take a seat in the waiting room, and grab a magazine.
“Miya Y/N.”
“That’s me,” you answer.
“Follow me.”
The assistant takes you back to an office with a high-rise view. A woman, maybe ten years your senior, smiles as you enter and invites you to sit down.
“I’m Dr. Remi.”
“Hi,” you warmly smile.
“So, I know Atsumu referred me to you but I like to hear the story from my clients personally, so Y/N, what brings you here?”
You take a long time to answer, fiddling with your wedding ring as you think about what to say.
You sigh, before telling her, “On the way to pick up me and our kids, my husband died in a car crash, and I have hated myself ever since.”
A chill goes down your back as you feel a ten-ton weight lifted off of your shoulders and you smile. You close your eyes finally feeling at peace and if you listened close enough it was almost like you could hear the faintest whisper.
“Proud of ya.”
I will love you without a single string attached

The Family Tree is... a Disaster
Takes place in the TCW Leverage AU. It does contain a few deviations, namely that the narrative ended up shifting Plo's role in Ahsoka's life, and Ventress's role overall.
This is mostly just dialogue where I outline the fuckery that is the disaster lineage family tree, not actual fic. It stemmed from my incessant need to justify "25yo Obi-Wan somehow got custody of 9yo Anakin without Shmi dying."
Warnings for: canon character death (modernized), canon violence (modernized), and references to Nazis and white supremacists (Palpatine collects WWII weaponry as a parallel to his canon display of Sith artifacts in his office as chancellor, and Ahsoka thinks it's sketchy)
----
"Okay," Cody says, setting down a glass of whiskey as he drops into the seat across the table. "What the hell is your family tree like?"
Obi-Wan raises an eyebrow, and continues cleaning off the definitely-not-stolen crystal komodo dragon he'd won in today's job. "I beg your pardon?"
"You and Skywalker," Cody says, gesturing between Obi-Wan, who is just sitting there minding his own business, and Anakin, who is across the closed-for-tonight bar and doing something inadvisable on the pool table. "You've said he was your brother, and mentioned raising him, which, sure, I'm over twenty years older than my youngest brother, people take over parenting roles all the time. But you have different last names, have mentioned stepfamilies that the other doesn't have, reference things as 'your aunt, not mine,' and I am just getting... very confused. I figured it was personal and I could leave well enough alone, but considering your older brother almost shot us today--"
"Okay, Xanatos is not my brother," Obi-Wan immediately says. "Just. I just have to stop you right there. Xanatos was a student of my father's for a time, but I promise he's not family. Nobody except maybe Komari would consider him even close, and she doesn't count since she's in prison for life and the farthest thing from stable."
Cody gestures. "That, Obi-Wan. That's what I'm talking about. I don't even know who Komari is."
Obi-Wan purses his lips in a failed attempt to not smile. "Do you actually want the explanation? It's long and unnecessarily complicated."
"So's mine," Cody snorts. Obi-Wan waits, patient and pleasant, and is rewarded when Cody sighs. "Please."
"Of course, my dear. To answer your first question, though, Anakin is my half-brother." With a smile, Obi-Wan digs a piece of paper and a pen from his briefcase. "So, center of the chain: me, my father Qui-Gon, my grandfather Yan, and my great-grandfather Yoda. With me so far?"
"Easy enough. Do you have to go back that far?"
"Great-grandfather Yoda is still alive and regularly escaping the old folks' home to terrorize younger relatives, so yes," Obi-Wan says. "Given that you may just meet a tiny, meddling relative of mine when he's bored, we do in fact have to go back that far."
"...how old is he?"
"We don't know for sure. A hundred and eight-ish is the best guess." Obi-Wan shrugs. "It's not a huge deal, mostly he likes bothering Anakin these days. Anyway, grandfather. Yan Dooku. Inherited a minory duchy from his maternal grandfather decades back. Mostly hangs around there because he's on terrorist watchlists in the States."
"Oh, lovely."
Obi-Wan grins. "Trust me, it gets worse. Anyway, grandfather never actually married, but spent most of his time with his 'best friend' Sifo Dyas, who died about a decade back."
"Gay?"
"Well, we know that now, but they got together in the seventies, and this was back when they were both working government jobs, so, you know. It happens."
"Good to know," Cody says. "So, Yoda's kid is Yan, who inherited a title and land from a maternal relative, and had a life partner but never married. With you so far."
"All of Yan's kids were adopted," Obi-Wan continues, sketching out the first branch away from the Yan/Sifo partnership. "Rael was actually grandfather's cousin, maternally, and ended up in his custody after getting orphaned at five. These days, he does most of the stewardship duties at the Serenno Duchy. His daughter Nim is teaching military history at a university in Germany."
Cody nods. "Uncle number one is named Rael, technically your dad's cousin, has a daughter. Got it."
"About a decade after Rael, they adopted my father, Qui-Gon. He and grandfather fought, frequently, but they did care for each other. My father was a botanist, did bio-engineering. We'll get back to him later, because he's where things get complicated." Obi-Wan made sure to leave room around the name. "Just a few years older than me was--is--Komari Vosa. She is... serving a life sentence. I think she fought Jango once."
"She fought my father?"
"To the best of my knowledge, they both almost died, yes," Obi-Wan says. "She's in maximum security these days. She was an assassin. I'll get a call if she breaks out, and I'll let you know along with everyone else."
"Bad news auntie, got it."
"Last adoption, sort of, is Ventress," Obi-Wan finishes off. "A few years younger than me, is technically grandfather's personal assistant and does secretarial work and the like, but we all know he's planning to leave as much of the inheritance to her as he is to the rest of us. She's aggressive and unpleasant, but she takes care of him and hasn't actually threatened to kill any of us yet, so that's fine."
"How'd she join?" Cody asks.
"Ky Narec was a friend of Qui-Gon's; Ventress was his daughter. Ky died a few years after Qui-Gon did, and Ventress was a mess, after." Obi-Wan shrugs and scratches that connection into the little sketch of a family tree as well. "Grandfather offered her a job until she got herself back together, and then she just kind of... stuck around."
"Youngest aunt, more of a cousin." Cody summarizes. "Now we go back to your father?"
"Qui-Gon Jinn was a man of many skills," Obi-Wan says drily. "Adequate birth control was not one of them."
It's almost a pity that Cody wasn't drinking anything, because going by the way he chokes, Obi-Wan's pretty sure the spit take would have been spectacular.
"I'm sorry," Cody says. "Can you repeat that?"
"I was an accident," Obi-Wan says, not even bothering to hide his smile. "So was Anakin."
"So that sounds like... a story."
"It is," Obi-Wan confirms. "My biological mother has never been in the picture. They had a fling, she wasn't sure if she'd want to abort or give me up, just that she wasn't ready to be a parent, and Qui-Gon volunteered to take full custody so she could go back to her life after the birth. I've never met her, but I kept her family name. You can consider her irrelevant beyond that."
Cody nods.
"So, when I was about a year old, Qui-Gon reconnects with an old flame, they get married two years later. Step-mother number one is Tahl. Lovely woman, I absolutely adored her, and she had a daughter, my stepsister, Bant Eerin."
"I met her, right?" Cody asks.
"Yes, she was the doctor who patched up my bullet wound a few months ago," Obi-Wan says. "With the giant glasses that make her look a little fish-eyed."
"She was nice."
"She is," Obi-Wan agrees. "At any rate, that was our family for a while, and then Tahl died when I was fourteen. Bant wanted to go to a magnet school for medical studies, and Qui-Gon's grief was... not optimal for taking care of multiple teenagers, shall we say, so Bant moved in with her paternal uncle, Kit Fisto, and Kit's son Nahdar. He's a marine biologist, incredibly friendly, and has no idea of any of the rest of my side of the family's questionable activities. If you ever meet him, you will pretend that we are a legal firm with a team of security consultants."
Cody raises a brow. Obi-Wan despairs. "Best you could do?"
"We're not that likely to run into him." Obi-Wan draws out a new line. "So, Qui-Gon deals poorly with grief. This is also around the time that Xanatos came around to ruin our lives a little. He was a very rich and unpleasant man, but he's dead as of four hours ago, so you don't have to worry about him. Or his son."
"His son?"
"Anakin handled that," Obi-Wan says. "Thoroughly. Granta Omega is no longer an issue. He's not dead, but... well. Anakin has his ways. Er--I should probably mention Feemor; he was my father's assistant at the university for a long time. Anakin and I still call him our uncle."
"Also a person to avoid mentioning criminal activity to?" Cody prompts.
"Well... no, but only because I don't think he'd care. The man is, forgive me, more of a 'walking sweatervest' than I am. He's a very bland and unassuming man. He once described himself as the background character of the soap opera that is my family's existence."
"Sounds like a charmer."
"Oh, he's very kind and clever, and witty as well. I adore him, and he really is family. He's just also very, very normal. Not boring, but..." Obi-Wan trails off and shrugs helplessly. "He's an editor for an agricultural research journal. Also not someone I anticipate us running into."
"Noted."
"Right, so, Qui-Gon dealing poorly with his grief didn't involve much drinking, but there were a few months of him trying to... lose himself in the pleasures of the flesh?" Obi-Wan tries, and then deflates at the look on Cody's face. "He was slagging around. Shmi got pregnant with Anakin, who was born when I was sixteen. Shared custody at first, Qui-Gon got him weekends and every other holiday, that sort of thing, and then they got married because they actually did like each other well enough, and it was easier on the taxes."
"So Shmi is stepmother number two."
"Shmi is stepmother number two, yes." Obi-Wan sketches in Anakin and Shmi. "About nine and a half years after Anakin was born, Shmi and Qui-Gon were in a car accident with... well, it later turned out it wasn't an accident, there was a hitman called Maul involved, he's actually Ventress's second cousin or something, I don't know. Grandfather handled most of that problem. Qui-Gon died, Shmi was in intensive care, and I got custody of Anakin as his nearest adult relative. We weren't very close before that, because I was off at university by the time he was old enough to form memories, but that changed once he started living with me. I more or less raised him as a single parent from that point."
"This is why he jokes that you're like a father to him."
"Precisely," Obi-Wan says. "Shmi took about a year to recover enough to move again, and grandfather covered the costs. She still had to live with a dedicated carer and attend daily physical therapy. At that physical therapy, she met Cliegg Lars, whose son Owen was also a patient there. They hit it off, and three years later, they married. When Anakin refers to his stepfamily he's talking about the Lars out in Nevada."
"Nevada?"
"They have a farm. A very, very normal one. We don't drag them into our activities, unless we have an at-risk person who needs a safe house." Obi-Wan pauses, and then decides this really needs to be stressed. "This is important to me and Anakin, that we don't get them involved unless there's absolutely no other choice. Shmi's been through a lot, and the Lars are busy enough running the farm."
"Works for me," Cody says. "We've got enough safe houses that it shouldn't be an issue. I'm guessing this story doesn't end there, though."
Obi-Wan grimaces. "My own love life has been... a bit of a mess."
"I already know about Kryze, at least."
There's that. "I was temporarily engaged to a friend, Siri Tachi, shortly after high school. We were in a relationship, but this was mostly something done to appease a relative of hers that was getting overbearing to the point of absurdity, and she couldn't just cut them off. We broke off the engagement after the relative passed, and we're still friends."
He notes that down, then adds the other embarrassment of his early years. "First marriage was actually a drunken joke between myself and my best friend when we were in college. We got it annulled a few months later because we just didn't have time to drop by the courthouse before then, and he's actually engaged to Asajj now."
"Asajj?" Cody asks, watching in fascination as Obi-Wan tries to mark in both his own short marriage and the newer, long-term engagement without crossing any lines. He settles for just writing the name twice and including an asterisk with 'this is the same person.'
"Ventress," Obi-Wan clarifies. "Yeah, Quinlan's a fun guy. His little sister, Aayla, treats Anakin like a beloved younger cousin."
"Are they also off-limits for criminal activity?"
"No, Aayla's the one that taught Ahsoka how to vent-crawl," Obi-Wan says. "And I'm pretty sure Quinlan has contacts in every major government branch, criminal organization, and Fortune 500 company on the planet. I reach out to them regularly."
"Resources, then."
Obi-Wan nods. "Some time later, I married Satine. We had a son; you've met Korkie. We split due to incompatibility a year and change before Qui-Gon's death. Satine doesn't engage in criminal activity, but Bo-Katan is..."
"I've met Bo-Katan. I know what she's like, Obi. You don't have to explain."
"She works with Maul sometimes."
"...the man who killed your father?"
"Yes. It's all very stupid and convoluted." Obi-Wan still writes her in. "So, that's them. Korkie goes to boarding school, and I try not to involve him in anything. Anakin and Ahsoka like to teach him self-defense and the like, but Satine is adamant that he stay unaware of my less legal dealings until he's an adult."
Cody shrugs. "Makes sense. Is that every--wait, no, Skywalker's married."
Obi-Wan grins. "Yes, and Padme's got twins on the way."
"I was there when he told us," Cody says drily. "He was very loud about it. Okay, how does Ahsoka fit in?"
"Hold on, I forgot Beru," Obi-Wan mutters. "Owen's fiancee. Same rules as the Lars. Okay, you asked about Ahsoka. Right. So. Um."
He dithers. Cody waits for him, and then Obi-Wan just gives up. "Ahsoka, dear, would you like to explain how you joined the family, so to speak?"
Ahsoka looks up from whatever she and the boys are doing--there are multiple beer glasses and straws and duct tape involved, and Obi-Wan doesn't really want to know--and then flips off the table and over to Obi-Wan and Cody. She looks over the family tree chart, and then says, "Oooh, did you tell him about the cult?"
"You were in a cult?" Cody demands.
"No, Komari was. She was head priestess or something. I dunno, it's why she's in prison and stuff."
"I did not tell him about the cult," Obi-Wan mutters, already regretting this. "The Bando Gora aren't a problem anymore. I've already gotten to explaining how you and Anakin know each other."
Ahsoka rolls her eyes, steals his pen, and starts sketching in around Quinlan's name, over by Asajj since Obi-Wan's section is too crowded. "Okay, so, Quinlan's adopted. His dad is Tholme, and Tholme's dad is Plo Koon. Plo Koon is good friends with my Auntie, Shaak Ti, who raised me. They live next door to each other, out in the country, and I'd play in his yard a lot, because he had puppies, and he took me to visit his bees. Whenever Auntie needed a babysitter, she asked Quinlan or Aayla to do it since she knew and trusted them, and Aayla needed pocket money."
"This is so unnecessarily complicated," Cody mutters.
"It is!" Ahsoka chirps. Her grin is far too sharp. "So, this one time, Aayla was watching me when I was fourteen, and she was just helping me with my physics homework. BAM, the door slams open, and in stumbled Skyguy with his arm missing. I've never met him before, and my first introduction is him shortly after he's gotten an unplanned amputation."
Anakin, on the other side of the room, giggles. Obi-Wan just sighs. The Fett brothers appear to be in the land of 'horrified fascination.'
Ahsoka revels in it. "There's blood everywhere, I'm screaming, Aayla's panicking, Anakin's halfway to unconscious and insisting we can't call the hospital, and nobody can get Obi-Wan on the phone. Quinlan's in another country, and Auntie Shaak and Uncle Plo are at a movie, so they've both got their cellphones off. Tholme was faking his death at that point to get away from an incident with the Irish Mob, so we didn't even try him."
"What the actual fuck," Rex breathes.
Ahsoka continues with relish. "We get Bant to pick up, and she's there an hour later with Padme, because Padme knows how to drive the way Skyguy does, and the entire drive there is just Auntie Bant on speakerphone telling Aayla how to stop the bleeding and get him stabilized while Padme's screaming at traffic at the top of her lungs."
"I owe Aayla a fruit basket," Anakin muses aloud. "The anniversary of her saving my life is coming up, it's warranted."
"Five years, baby!" Ahsoka crows. She fist-pumps.
Obi-Wan just drops his head into his hands. "You're killing me, children."
Anakin shrugs, grinning. "You know, I think Fett Senior might have been involved in that fight."
"My shitty dad cut off your arm?" Rex demands.
"No, I think he was busy fighting the Interpol guy," Anakin says. "But he was definitely there. I think. Blood loss kinda got to me after a bit, but I'm pretty sure Jango Fett was there, and also Boba might've been hiding in the getaway car?"
"I need another glass," Cody mutters. He doesn't stand up, though.
"Wait," Rex says. "So who cut off your arm?"
Anakin shrugs with an unsure noise. "Someone tried to convince me it was Grandpa Yan, but he was in the middle of a court case in Italy for some kind of parole violation when it happened, so he had an alibi."
"...did he actually violate parole?" Cody asks, and Obi-Wan thinks he looks like he doesn't know if he actually wants an answer.
Ahsoka shrugs. So does Anakin. Obi-Wan carefully looks at a spot behind Cody, and doesn't explain anything about wine tastings used as covers for illicit arms deals.
"The arm?" Rex prompts, sounding a little desperate to get back to the question he likely thinks is the most important.
"I still say it was Skeevy Sheev," Ahsoka chimes in.
"It wasn't Palpatine," Anakin snaps.
"Your creepy older friend who took you to operas and gives you fancy gifts and knows way too much about swords who was conveniently there to talk to the police and cover for you so you didn't get arrested for getting in the middle of a gang war in the first place, yes," Ahsoka says, dropping into a chair and sighing dramatically. "The guy who definitely hasn't been trying to convince you for a year and change that your wife is cheating on you with your older brother."
"Ahsoka!"
"What? He is."
"Anakin," Rex says, "your life sounds like a trainwreck."
"I'm not going to assume a frail, elderly man cut my arm off!" Anakin protests. "Even if he wanted to, he doesn't exactly have the muscle for it!"
"Grandfather's older," Obi-Wan points out, even though he knows it won't help. "And he definitely still could."
"Ha!" Ahsoka shouts.
"He could have hired someone?" Cody suggests. "Doesn't need to do it himself, if he has enough money."
Obi-Wan has a sneaking suspicion that Cody is deliberately stirring the pot as revenge for Anakin sending him eighty-seven cat memes inside an hour during last night's dinner.
"You all suck," Anakin declares. "Also, what the hell do you mean 'knows way too much about swords,' Ahsoka? You know way too much about swords!"
"Yeah, but I'm like ninety-percent sure that his antiques are Prussian and mid-century German military officer dress uniform relics, and pairing that with the Nazi pistols he's got on display--"
"He's just a history buff! And his family's German, of course he prioritizes that region, it's not like he doesn't have Russian or French or English antiques in there too, it's all sides of the war and--"
"I'm just saying he's almost definitely sending me sketchy glances like he thinks I'm planning to steal the silver on the three occasions you've had me with you when you stop by, and I'm pretty sure it's got less to do with my criminal record and more to do with me being, you know, not white."
Anakin looks ready to blow, so Obi-Wan interrupts. "Ahsoka, you were explaining how Anakin passing out on Aayla and scaring us all half to death led to your friendship?"
Ahsoka blinks at him, and then sticks her tongue out at Anakin and turns back to the chart. "So basically, Skyguy had to recuperate in Uncle Plo's living room for a week or two, and I kept showing up to bother him because he was bored and nobody would give him a laptop for 'security reasons,' because he had to lay low and stuff. He made me help him sketch out designs for a prosthesis and do all the writing for the math he had to do for the 3D printer, and we got to chatting."
Ahsoka hops up and back onto a table, legs swinging below her. "I decided he was cool and started following him around while he was getting used to only having one hand, mostly because I was bored. He showed me how to hotwire a car, and explained the best places to put a bug if you were looking to make it sneaky, and he picked my pocket to show off so many times when he was walking around Uncle Plo's house that I made him teach me that, too. And, uh, then Aayla found out and they got into a shouting match about it and decided they both needed to teach me parkour so I could get out of any mess I got myself into, since I was obviously going to follow them into a life of crime."
"And you did," Anakin says, far too proudly. "You're the best thief in this half of the country."
"Only because Aayla moved out east."
Anakin rolls his eyes and pulls Ahsoka into his side, digging his knuckles into her skull. "Best thief! You are the best thief! Be proud of yourself!"
"Let go!"
"Never!"
Obi-Wan sighed heavily and rubbed at his forehead. "Children, please."
"You're not my dad," Ahsoka growls out at him. "Skyguy, I'm going to bite you!"
"Good luck, the only arm you can access is the one that's going to break your teeth."
Ahsoka shrieks in outrage and stomps on Anakin's instep.
It's almost funny, for all that Obi-Wan's seen it play out a million times before, but the really interesting part is seeing Rex's look of fond dismay.
Obi-Wan thinks he might be adding a branch out to the Fetts soon. He's not actually sure if Rex is interested in Anakin or Ahsoka, and he's smack dab between them in age, so that's not a help either, but... well. The expression is familiar enough.
"Please tell me you don't match-make," Cody mutters to him.
"No, I plan to let the pieces fall where they will," Obi-Wan responds, just as low, and far more amused. "I'm simply trying to predict where those landings are to be."
Cody looks at him, and then back at the roughhousing trio, and sighs heavily. "You know, I really didn't think that you technically being minor royalty was going to be the least convoluted thing in your story, Obi-Wan."
He laughs, because it's true. "I'm first in line to inherit the title, since Rael denounced his claim. Nim isn't interested, and Qui-Gon's dead, so... I'm next."
Cody makes a face. "Delightful. I'm guessing that's not a connection we can safely make use of."
"No more than the Kryze or Naberries, I'm afraid." Obi-Wan claps him on the shoulder. "Chin up, I've plenty others in the metaphorical rolodex, all far less legitimate and far more amenable to work with our little outfit."
"Rolodex, really?" Cody snorts. "You're not that old."
Obi-Wan smiles winningly. "You don't know how old I am, Cody. All my IDs are fake."
"Anakin's twenty-four, and you're sixteen years older than him, going by the story you just told me," Cody points out. "I do know how to do basic math, Obi-Wan."
"I had to try," Obi-Wan admits. "I threw a lot of information at you all at once; I'd hoped you missed some of the ages in there."
"I have eight brothers," Cody scoffs. "And literally dozens of cousins, plus niblings, uncles, aunts, and so on. I have experience on this."
"If I asked you to list of the age of every single relative you have, you'd be able to do it?"
"Do you want me to draw a chart? I can draw a chart."
Obi-Wan can't help but laugh. "I'd be delighted, my dear."
Cody rolls his eyes, but Obi-Wan thinks--it's hard to tell in the dimmed lights of the closed bar--that there's a hint of a blush on the man's face. Obi-Wan lets himself slouch to the side, drops his head to rest on one fist, indolent debauchery in every line of his body. Cody does his best to ignore him, but Obi-Wan knows how to smile lazily and blink slowly and draw a man in.
(The whole 'indolent debauchery in every line of his body' phrasing is Anakin's, from back when he was a teenager trying to read highbrow literature to impress a cute girl... and to come up with new insults for his older brother.)
"So," Cody says, with a cough meant to somehow distract Obi-Wan from whatever's showing on the man's face. "Why, uh, why is your grandfather on terrorist watchlists?"
"Well, he didn't initially do anything," Obi-Wan says. "He was just a gay man who didn't hide it quite well enough, and had too much money and too white a face for someone to just call the cops on a faulty report. The Red Scare was technically over by that point, I think, but if a few people made suggestions that he was more loyal to the country that gave him a noble title than to the United States... he received a few warnings, of course, and it could have all blown over..."
"But?"
"But my grandfather is not a man to do things by halves, and instead decided that if the government was to list him as a threat, then he would oblige and make himself a threat," Obi-Wan finishes. "Living up to their labels, rolling with the assumptions, whatever you'd like to call it. It all irked him, and so he made some incredibly questionable decisions to make the government's lives harder. Some weren't bad, like donating to anti-war foundations that were protesting the Gulf War and the interventions in Yugoslavia, that sort of thing, and some were... nobody really looks well on gunrunning, you know."
"For fuck's sake..."
"Indeed," Obi-Wan chuckles. "Ironically, he has minimal opinion on the optimal form of economics, for all that virulent xenophobia and the remnants of anti-communism were involved in the whole mess. He just wanted to create problems for the people that were causing him problems."
Cody shakes his head. "I want to judge that, but you've met my father."
"Jango Fett is, indeed, also not a man to do things by halves," Obi-Wan agrees, attempting to nod gravely but breaking into a smile at the end. "That man is absurd."
"At least he's not dragging Boba into it anymore," Cody mutters. He drags over the fresh sheet of paper and pen that Obi-Wan offers him. "Okay, right, let's start with Jaster..."

________
Reader’s POV
You just about had a heart attack when the door opened. It’d been such a long time since it’d been opened. Years and years and years. You’d lost track of the days quickly but it was long enough for you to accept that it’d been a very long time. Long enough to accept that when Michael took over Dean and threw you down in the windowless little room, Dean didn’t win that fight.
The only thing keeping you going aside from the spell Michael had put up to keep you permanently trapped, body stuck in time, was the desire to save Dean. Or what was left of him. You’d been alone for years, body having taken a beating by Michael when he first captured you. You were still covered in bruises, broken ribs that wouldn’t heal, pain in every breath. You didn’t sleep, didn’t eat. Solitude, cut off from the world, that was your main form of torture. Dean though...who knew what hell he was going through trapped with a psychopath like that for all these years.
You readied yourself, a dark figure walking inside the room. The room was pitch black to a certain point before you were trapped under a bright light you’d yet to figure out how to turn off. The figure stopped as their feet hit the brightness, a pair of brown boots and slim dark jeans all you could make out. They mumbled something and you felt the air shift slightly. You dared to reach at hand out to where the invisible wall keeping you trapped had been.
Your hand waved right on through it and you suddenly felt cool, clean air hit you. The person jolted when you sprang up, running away as you bolted for the door. You followed them up a flight of stairs and straight out into the foyer of a very nice house. You could see it was a man now and tackled him, straddling his hips and grabbing your knife from your waistband of your loose shorts, holding it to his throat. He breathed hard as you stared at him, cocking your head.
He was the spitting image of Dean. Mostly. His eyes weren’t green and there was something about his nose that reminded you of your own. The biggest tell of all though was the genuine fear in his face, the confusion.
“What’s your name,” you said. You held up the knife for a moment and tucked it away when you saw he was only focused on it. The young man, no more than twenty years old, took a deep breath. You yelped when he threw his legs up and wrapped them around your waist, yanking you off of him. He scrambled to his feet but you were on his tail, grabbing at his jacket. He spun around and popped you in the face, sending you to the floor.
You whined and cupped your cheek, the young man frozen in the doorway with a horrified look on his face.
“Who punches their own mom!” you shouted. He ran out the door and you went after, growling at your bare feet as he took off down the gravel driveway. “I’m gonna find you!”
You stomped your foot on the cool concrete front path, glancing to your right and spotting a sports car. You jogged back inside and found a pair of women’s sneakers, a little too big but you tied them tight and found some keys on a front table.
About two minutes later you were pulling up beside the guy on the road and hopped out of the car, the man running into the nearby treeline. You pulled out your knife and threw it, catching his jacket and pinning the sleeve to the tree trunk. He stumbled and fell down as you walked over, staring up with wide eyes. You sighed and ran a hand over your face.
“Can you at least tell me your first name?” you asked. He shook his head and you crossed your arms. “I bet your name is Lyle, isn’t it.”
“How’d you know that?” he asked, voice a bit higher than Dean’s but it made you smile, something warm and familiar to it.
“I’ve had a lot of time to think recently. Lyle is my top name for a boy if I ever had one,” you said. “So. Lyle Winchester.”
“That’s not my name,” he said. He stood up and pulled out the knife, carefully holding it out to you.
“You look just like Dean and me. You’re my son...somehow,” you said.
“Fine. My name is Lyle and that’s all I can say about myself,” he said. “I’m serious.”
You recognized the tone, that edge to it, the roughness but laced with an undercurrent of worry. Part of you wanted him to tell you everything about him but you knew he couldn’t, instead letting yourself give him a simple nod.
“I’ll make you a deal Lyle. I won’t ask questions about you that you can’t answer if you tell me how and why you got me out of there and answer anything else I want to know about this little situation.”
“Or else what?” he scoffed.
“Or else someday when you’re a teenager I won’t let you do anything. Lyle.” You took the knife from him and put it away, taking a deep breath. You stepped back out to the road, leaning against the car. You shut your eyes, something heavy draped over you. You peeled one eye open, Lyle leaning back against the car next to you in a blue flannel and dark gray t-shirt. His black hooded jacket was over your shoulders and you slipped your arms through the sleeves, wrapping them around yourself. You squeezed your eyes tight, shuddering before warm arms embraced you, Lyle almost as tall as Dean holding you close to him. “How did you know I was down there?”
“I can’t answer that,” he said.
“What year is it?” you asked.
“2089.” You froze, staring up at him. “Well, 2089 where we are right now is.”
“Lyle. It was 2018 when Michael took me. That’s not possible.”
“I can’t answer that either.” Tears welled up in your eyes and he hugged you again. “Sorry.”
“Dean was thirty nine the last time I saw him and it’s seventy one years later? He is dead. Sam is dead. They’re all dead so explain to me how the fucking hell I have a son with Dean!” you shouted. You pushed him away and ran your hands over your face. “Years. Fucking years I’ve sat down there waiting for him to come and get me. Him or Sam or someone. Fucking seventy one years!”
“Y/N,” he said, sounding a bit awkward but he cleared his throat. “I can’t answer everything because I don’t know everything. But I exist and that should tell you something.”
You wiped off your face with his sleeve and looked around, turning back and staring at him.
“I’m at the start of whatever this is and you’re way down the line,” you said. He nodded with a slight smile.
“I don’t understand it but this, where I’m from, this has already happened to you.”
“You’re from the future then,” you said.
“Not exactly,” he said.
“A different universe?” He looked at you like you were nuts and the air shifted, Lyle freezing. You turned and saw Jack, a smile on his face. “Jack?”
“Hi Y/N,” he said. He stepped over and gave you a big hug, a little bit of ache inside you easing finally. “Don’t worry about him. He’s just on pause.”
“Jack I don’t understand fucking anything. What’s going on?” you asked. He pursed his lips and sighed.
“Well you already figured out Lyle is your and Dean’s son. I didn’t think I could slip that one past you. But it had to be him that came and saved you.”
“Why?”
“Dean’s in heaven. Has been for 69 years.” You broke away from him feeling like you’d had a punch to gut and making you breathless. “I probably shouldn’t have told you that with the whole decades worth of trauma thing happening right now.”
“Did Michael…” you trailed off.
“No. A piece of rebar on a vamp hunt,” he said.
“He what?” you said.
“Yeah got pushed back on it. Sam was okay though. Oh and Dean had a dog for a few months.”
“Dean fucking died from that? That’s what kept him down?” you said. Jack nodded and you looked down, blinking your eyes. “Disregarding what is going on in my head right now about that, why didn’t you heal him? Or Castiel?”
“Well Cas was in heaven helping me rebuild after he sort of died and I brought him back. I kinda am the new God,” he said with a smile.
“I’m proud of that but again, why didn’t you come down here and heal Dean?”
“I’m sort of hands off in that regard,” he said. You were about to go off on him for that when it hit you.
“Jack how long have you known I was alive,” you said.
“2020 when I took over, I got these extra-”
“You knew I was alive and  left me in a hole in the ground for over seventy years?” you said.
“Like I said, I’m hands off,” he said.
“I was your fucking mom! I took care of you! I protected you! I almost died for you more than once and when you find out I’m still alive you say fuck that bitch, she can deal with it on her own? What the fuck is wrong with you!” you shouted. You slapped him in the face, Jack pouting as you sank down to your knees. “I want Dean.”
“Y/N.”
“I want Dean and Sam.”
“Y/N-”
“I want Dean!”
“I can’t-”
“Fuck you! You’re as every bit as evil as that devil father of yours after all,” you said. You forced yourself to your feet, tears prickling in his eyes. “Oh did I hurt your feelings? Tough fucking shit! Do you realize that I have not only been stuck waiting for years but my body got stuck too. I’ve been sitting with broken ribs for seventy years. Every single breath excruciating.”
You yanked up your shirt, deep purple and black skin radiating across most of your abdomen. Jack reached out a hand and you moved back, dropping your shirt.
“I thought you were hands off. I don’t want your-” you said before warmth trickled through you, the pain gone, body feeling so strange at being without it.
“I don’t have to touch to heal you,” he said quietly. He swallowed and bowed his head. “I tried to let people live their lives without my interference and sometimes they’re messy but I’ve come to realize recently that’s wrong. A bit of help here and there is good. It gives people hope and maybe I should have done things different.”
“My family’s dead and I don’t want to wait around decades more to see them again in heaven. You’re going to-”
“No I won’t. Lyle’s life counts on you doing exactly what you’re supposed to as do your two other children’s. I can’t just put you in heaven. You can’t die right and you have to wait to see Dean until things work themselves out. Lyle’s going to be with you for a while and help get some things settled. It’s already set in motion so go with it,” he said.
“Jack I want Dean. Please,” you said. “Please Jack. Just five minutes.”
“Would you rather have your family back in the near future, alive, or would you rather have your and Dean’s souls torn apart and you never see him again, dead or alive? Rather he over there doesn’t exist? Rather no one exists?”
“I didn’t say that. Of course I would rather have them back alive-“
“Then be patient.”
“Jack. You gotta give me something. Something please.”
“I’ll talk to Lyle, tell him he can loosen up some. But I can’t tell you what to do. You have to follow your gut. Listen to Lyle and it’ll work out,” said Jack. You squeezed your eyes shut, Jack carefully resting a hand on your shoulder. “Do you hate me?”
“I hate that our family was ripped apart. I hate that you didn’t tell the boys I was alive once you knew. I hate that the last time I saw Dean alive we argued. I think what I hate most of all is that you treated us like everyone else. We’re not, Jack. We’re your family. All of us deserved a chance at normal and we didn’t get it.”
“Sam did.”
“How many years did Sam live without us? Without his brother?” you asked. Jack glanced down and you nodded. “You said you became God? Why didn’t you get rid of the monsters altogether Jack. Don’t tell me you don’t have that power.”
“I thought...I thought it was the natural order.”
“Yet you know there are other universes with no monsters at all. You could have taken the monsters away. Shit turn them human for all I care. The boys didn’t have to keep hunting after you took over. You could have been hands off and changed that one fact and saved so many lives, improved so many lives.”
“No. I couldn’t have changed it. Not back then.”
“Why the hell not?” you asked. He pulled his hand away and you found yourself in some clean clothes, Lyle’s jacket folded on top of the car.
“Because when I became God, I learned a lot. It sucks knowing that certain things have to happen and that I had to ignore when Sam prayed to me in that barn because things had to happen this way.”
“But why?”
“Because if I didn’t, if I’d intervened then and there, this universe, all of the ones I’ve been busy rebuilding, the way I’ve been rebuilding heaven...it’d be gone. Destroyed and I wouldn’t be able to put it back. It’s a temporary pain even if it doesn’t seem like it. So please, Y/N, please, listen to Lyle. Work with him. It’ll work out and things can be okay. You can have everything you ever wanted and more. You can have the freaking apple pie life and the no monsters and all of it but please understand you have more shit to go through first and whatever happens, do not let Lyle die.”
“He’s my son. I wouldn’t let that happen to him,” you said. Jack nodded and you grabbed his arm when he turned to leave. “You’ve grown up Jackie.”
“I’m still a baby by God standards,” he said.
“The guys take care of you after I was gone?” you asked.
“Yeah. I missed you though,” he said. “I accidentally killed Mary and sort of lost my soul for a bit. Things got bad for a while.”
“Do you see Kelly in heaven sometimes? Mary?” you asked. He nodded and you smiled. “Kids can fuck up and your parents will forgive you.”
“I’m sorry it has to be this way, Y/N. If I could snap my fingers to fix it all, stop it from ever happening, I would.”
“I’m going to trust that it had to be this way,” you said. “But give me a ballpark figure here. When do I get the guys back?”
“That’s relative. You’re going to end up breaking the space time continuum so it’s hard to answer that correctly.” You stared at him and he shrugged. “Not too long. A few days at most. I promise.”
“Wait is that how we have a twenty year old son?” you asked.
“Yes. The next time you see Dean he’ll be younger than the last you saw him. Just trust your gut and Lyle. Next time I see you I hope things are much better,” he said. You opened your mouth but he disappeared. You shook your head and turned around, Lyle now wearing his jacket, standing closer to the passenger seat door. For a long while you both simply stared, Lyle looking as if he’d just had his own long conversation with Jack.
“You can call me Y/N if that makes it easier,” you said. He nodded and you took a deep breath, going to the driver’s side. “So. What’s the next move?”
“Jack just said after I got you out we had to go to Lebanon. He didn’t tell me anything more than that,” he said.
“Any idea where we are?” you asked.
“San Antonio,” he said. “So we go North?”
“Yeah,” you said quietly. “Mind taking the first shift driving? I sort of haven’t slept in like seventy years.”
“No that’s fine,” he said. He walked around the front and you made your way to the passenger side, climbing in and sighing. He got behind the wheel and took a deep breath. “You and dad run a construction business.”
“That’s nice,” you said, smiling to yourself. “Dean’d be real good at that kind of thing. He’s really smart.”
“I know. Most guys can’t call up their dad for help on their architecture homework,” he said.
“You go to college?” you asked, Lyle nodding. “Do you know about...this stuff?”
“I’m still not convinced I’m not insane. I just got home on a friday night. We had dinner and everyone went outside to have a bonfire in the backyard. I went in to use the bathroom and Uncle Jack stopped me before I could get back outside. He said a lot of crazy stuff I didn’t believe but the fact you were in that basement...you and dad are only like forty but you’re obviously too old right now to have had me when that would have made sense and Uncle Jack said space and time is gonna break and-”
“Lyle,” you said, holding up a hand. “Relax. I just want to know, do you know what hunting is?”
“Dad doesn’t go hunting,” he said, narrowing his eyes. You smiled and nodded to yourself. “We don’t even own a gun.”
“I doubt that. But that must mean that something happens to the monsters along the way too.”
“What do you mean monsters? And why were you kidnapped in a basement? And what the fuck is going on? You’re supposed to be my mom that runs the family business and you kick ass in your soccer league in the summer and you can’t cook to save your life and that’s okay cause you’re really good at baking and pies and shit and I just don’t understand who you really are.” His face was flush, eyes fighting back tears. You smiled, reaching over and cupping his cheek.
“You’re a good guy Lyle. We obviously did something right,” you said, wiping away a stray tear that fell. “It’s scary. It’s really scary. I’m not your mom yet but I will be someday. I promise I will tell you everything you don’t know when I catch up to your time. Dean and I will. But we need to go to Lebanon and the faster we can go there and figure out what we have to do, the faster we can get you back home where you belong.”
“But can’t you-”
“This world isn’t safe, Lyle. It is very unsafe for a Winchester especially. Please drive now,” you said. You put on your seatbelt and he closed his eyes. “Please.”
“I was supposed to be having a smore right now,” he said.
“I know. But saving the world is kinda cool,” you said.
“I don’t want to save the world. I want to go home and not see my mom be beat to shit. I want my dad to go back to teasing me at dinner and not being dead,” he said.
“If we do this right, you can go back to that really soon. It hasn’t happened for me yet. We can talk all about this when you come back. The night you come back we can talk through it all. But we have to get going. The sooner we go, the sooner it goes back to normal.”
“It’ll never be normal again.”
“Yes it will. I promise.”
“How do you-“
“Because I just had this really bad thing happen to me but someday I’m going to have you and everything I ever wanted with Dean. So it sucks right now but it’ll be better eventually. I know it will. You’re here so I know it’ll be normal.” He nodded and wiped off his face, starting the car up again.
“Y/N. Are you okay after...you know...being down there beat up all that time?”
“Not really,” you said. He took off his jacket and handed it to you. You stared before he rolled his eyes, laying it over your front.
“Sleep. I can drive.”
“Lyle.”
“Y/N. Rest. It’s safe. I got this.”
“You take after your dad.”
“Take after someone else too,” he said. You smiled and nodded, resting your head on your shoulder, closing your eyes. “I’ll wake you up for breakfast.”
“Egg and-”
“Cheese on a biscuit, two breakfast burritos, extra hot sauce and a small hot latte.”
“At least my road trip order didn’t change,” you said, quickly relaxing and falling asleep for the first time in ages.

For almost six weeks he had been sneaking into her bedroom at night, completely unseen to anyone. Not even the boy who spent the majority of his days on his couch, passed out or begging for a fix.
This time it was his turn to beg.
He crawled through the window - left open like always for him - and tossed his legs through in to her bedroom. He grunted when her body collided with his in the dark, sending him backwards towards the wall.
"We said 11pm. It's 11:17pm." She mumbled as she pressed on her toes to wrap her arms around his neck.
"Sorry. Got wrapped up in some shit. Thought I forgot?" He smirked as he hitched at the waist to wrap his arms around her, reciprocating her affection.
"Yes." She whispered into his shoulder as her fingertips curled into the material of his coveralls.
Barry only lifted her up in response, always amazed that a girl with a brother the size of Rafe Cameron could be so tiny. He carried her over to her bed and laid her on her back, crawling on top of her to take up the space between her thighs. He placed feather-light kisses down her neck, a smile on his face as she pulled at his coveralls.
"Hey, Tiny. I need to borrow some fucking cash. You don't still have that stupid piggy bank or some shit - what the fuck is this?" Rafe came stomping into her bedroom without knocking and flicked the lights on, his hands pushing all the trinkets and books off her dresser as he searched.
"Rafe, what the fuck! Knock first, asshole!" She screamed as she tossed a decorative pillow off her bed and towards her older brother who stood dumbfounded on the other side of her bedroom.
"The fuck is this? Why is he here?" Rafe questioned as he pointed his index finger at the older man on top of his younger sister.
"What's up, Country Club?" Barry smirked as he turned his face to look at Rafe, as if he weren't on top of his little sister.
"T.C, he has to leave. Now. I'm fucking serious." Rafe grumbled with a stern look, a pinch of his nostrils and then exited her bedroom with a slam of the door.
"T.C?" Barry grinned as he propped himself up on his arms above her and looked down at her embarrassed face.
"Tiny Cameron." She sighed as she pressed one hand to his lower back and the other to her forehead.
"That's cute. Shit's real cute. He take money from you a lot?" Barry asked as he leaned his weight on one forearm to run his fingertips over his top lip.
"Not a lot. Sometimes. Mostly takes it from dad, but he asks for money a lot more often now. I'm assuming it's to pay you." She replied softly.
"Some of it. Your brother got a nice new bike out there and he still runnin' up a tab with me, so..." Barry trailed as he placed his hand back down beside her on the bed.
"Don't get me started on that stupid dirt bike." She sighed as she rolled her head back on the sheets.
"Listen, I'm gonna go. I can hear him pacing outside that fucking door. But don't let him take your money, T.C." Barry winked before he gave her a quick kiss on her lips and pulled himself off the bed, heading back towards the window.
"Fuck you, Barry." She whined with a pout, sitting up on the bed to watch him leave.
"Next time." He grinned, flashing her his gold tooth.
*
It had been close to one week since the night Rafe had caught Barry in his little sister's room, and since then his debt had grown exponentially. Rafe felt overwhelmed and reckless as he entered the combination to his father's wall safe. Perhaps that's why he got caught.
"Dad, I swear I learned my lesson. Okay? Let's not do this. Please." Rafe begged from the front seat of his father's S.U.V as they idled out front of Barry's house.
"Stay in the car." Ward ordered as he unbuckled his seat belt and opened his door.
Ward Cameron walked up the dirt path, lit by the lights of his vehicle and pulled his wallet from his back pocket. He saw the young man sitting at the fire pit, a bottle of liquor in his hand.
"Are you Barry?" He called as he opened his wallet and began to count the bills.
"Might be. You lost?" Barry asked as he took a swig of the whiskey in his hand and looked over the clean cut older man standing a few feet in front of him.
"No. My son Rafe owes you money. I'm here to pay his tab." Ward replied with a shake of his head as he pulled out the wad of cash, and folded it in half.
"Big Daddy Cameron, huh?" Barry smirked as he stood up from his chair and took a few steps towards Ward.
"That should cover it. Don't sell my son drugs anymore." Ward growled as he tossed the cash on the ground at Barry's feet and turned to walk away.
"Got no problem not selling drugs to your delinquent son. But it's your daughter who might have a problem staying away from me." Barry replied his stance strong as he watched Ward Cameron stop dead in his tracks, his back rigid.
"Sarah?" Ward asked as he turned around, his eyes wide as he looked the dealer up then down.
"You forget you have more than one daughter, don't you? Talking about the little one. Think Rafe calls her...T.C?" Barry replied as he pushed his hands into his pockets.
Ward Cameron ran a shaky hand over his beard as he continued to stare at Barry. He turned to leave, but changed his mind and stalked back over to him, and stood directly in front of the shorter man.
"Stay away from my family. My son and especially my daughter." Ward growled a finger pressed into Barry's chest before he turned on his heel and stomped back towards the S.U.V.
"Big Daddy Cameron." Barry scoffed with a shake of his head as he crouched down to pick up the bills on the ground. He knew he had just lit a match under the Cameron patriarch, but he was fine with it.
Back at Tannyhill Rafe walked quickly into the house and up the stairs, his head hung low as he blinked back tears. He walked passed each of his sisters' rooms towards his own, stopping at the one of the left.
"T.C, better gear up. Dad knows about Barry. He's coming upstairs. Fire is lit." Rafe grumbled with a sniff and then made his way towards his bedroom with a slam of his door.
"What do you mean dad knows about - Hi, daddy." She mumbled as she scrambled off the bed after her brother, only to be met in the doorway by a livid Ward Cameron.
"How long?" Ward asked as he tried to keep his voice even, despite the way his body shook with pure anger. He had one daughter running around on The Cut, a son stealing from him to pay for his drug habit, and now his other daughter - his baby - was sleeping with that drug dealer.
What had he done wrong?
"Since I got home from school. Rafe introduced us at a party." She replied softly, avoiding her father's gaze.
"Are you snorting that shit like Rafe is?" Ward asked, his voice just a whisper and terrified.
"No, dad. I'm not. I swear. It's not like that with Barry. He likes me. He likes me a lot, and we're just hanging out together." She replied quickly as she reached for her father, her hands on his wrists that hung at his sides.
"But you're sleeping with him." Ward scoffed with a glare down at her. So tiny. Just like her mother. Everything about her reminded him of his first wife.
"I...I mean, yes. We're sleeping together. I go and visit him, and he comes over here sometimes." She nodded with a squeeze of his wrists.
"T.C, he comes here? To my house?" Ward glared down at his daughter.
"Dad, I -"
"I can't look at you right now." Ward grumbled as he pulled his wrists from her grip, rubbed his face and walked out of her bedroom, down the hall to his office.
"Shit." She whispered, pushing her hands through her hair. She walked back into her room, over to her desk and grabbed her bag. She walked over to her window, slid it open as quietly as she could and climbed out.
The knock at Barry's door was a surprise. He was expecting no visitors. He slowly raised his body up from the tattered couch, grabbed his gun from the waistband of his pants and walked cautiously to the front door.
"What you want?" He yelled, gun raised.
"It's me, you ass." Her sad voice sobbed back with a slam of her fist against the door once again.
"Fuck." Barry sighed as he reached for the several locking mechanisms on his door and let her in.
"What the fuck did you say to my dad!" She cried with a push of his strong chest.
Barry stood in the doorway and took each hit to the chest. He knew he may have overstepped a boundary or two that night, telling Ward Cameron he was sleeping with his daughter. But, he didn't like to have people come up to his home uninvited, telling him what to do and who to see. So he bit back.
"Stop. Listen to me. He came over here with your brother in the car, tossed money at me and told me to stop selling to Rafe." Barry muttered as he grabbed her wrists then held them against his chest to keep her close.
"And what did you say?" She struggled in his arms and looked up at him with those eyes that were all Cameron. He wished he didn't like them so much.
"I told him that was fine, but he might have an issue keeping his little girl out of my bed." Barry replied with a slight smirk, his gold tooth taking hold of his bottom lip.
"That isn't funny, Barry." She pouted up at him as she struggled to pull her wrists from his grip.
"It's a little funny."
"My dad is livid, Barry! Rafe is holed up in bedroom doing and thinking who knows what. And I - " She pulled her wrists from his grasp and stepped into his small home, beginning to pace.
"They ain't an issue for you anymore. Rafe's tab is paid, and now Big Daddy Cameron knows about us. So, I don't know what's got your panties in such a twist. But you should take them off if they're bothering you so much." Barry muttered as he ran his fingertips over his top lip, and leaned against the door frame as he watched her.
"No. I'm mad at you." She whispered as she crossed her arms over her chest, looking at him with a furrowed brow.
"Nipples say otherwise." Barry muttered with a point to her chest, pushed up under her forearms.
"Don't!" She whined as she covered her breasts from his view.
She was mad at him. It was the first time in the few weeks they had been dating she had felt angry with him. She scowled as she looked him up then down as he stayed leaned up against the door frame. The both of them challenging the other to make the first move.
"Well, are you staying the night or did you just come to yell at me and flash your nipples in my fucking face?" Barry grunted as he pushed himself off the door frame and slowly made his way towards the back of the house, slipping his gun back in the waistband of his pants.
"They aren't in your face." She mumbled but followed him towards his bedroom with a shuffle of her feet.
Barry sat on the edge of the bed, pulling the gun from the waistband of his pants and placing it delicately on his nightstand. He spread his knees and beckoned her over with a wave of his hand.
"I'm mad at you." She stated with her arms crossed over her chest still, looking him over. She did as instructed, though, walking over to his slowly and stood between his knees.
"Well. I don't wanna be mad at you." Barry replied as he placed his hands on her hips to pull her against his chest.
"You shouldn't have said those things to my dad, Barry." She whispered as she uncrossed her arms and placed her palms on his shoulders.
"I was right, wasn't I? You busted out the house and now you're here with me, ain't you?" Barry grinned up at her as his fingertips pushed up the hem of her shirt to touch her skin, still warm from her bike ride over.
"Well, yeah. But that doesn't mean you have to say it to my dad. Asshole." She pouted as she slapped his chest playfully before she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I could have said way worse shit to him than that. Like how you liked to be tied up." Barry chuckled as he placed his hands on her backside and raised his eyebrows at her. He grabbed at her elbows, lifting her arms from around his neck and held her arms behind her back.
"Barry." She whined as she dropped her forehead to his.
"Guess I'll save that one for next time." Barry muttered as he kept his grip on her arms behind her back strong, but leaned in to press his lips to hers.
"Be nice to me." She pouted against his lips as she struggled weakly in his grip.
"No. You gotta make up for your dad coming in and fucking up my night." Barry smirked as he held her wrists behind her back with one hand as the other reached to the front of her shirt, pushing it beneath her breasts.
"I knew you had a daddy kink, Barry. But if you wanna fuck my dad that's a deal breaker for me." She grinned as she squirmed in his grip.
"Get on your hands and knees. Tiny Cameron." Barry growled as he let her wrists go and slapped her backside firmly.
"Ow! Fuck you." She whined as she crawled over his lap and onto the bed.
"About time." Barry mumbled as he stood up, turning the face the bed to see her back arched the way liked. He ran his thumb over his top lip and smiled softly to himself.
He wasn't going to stop selling to Rafe Cameron, that was something Rafe had to decide for himself. And he certainly wasn't going to stop seeing or sleeping with the girl currently in his bed, wiggling her ass at him for his attention.
Ward Cameron would have to kill him first.
